The distributed festival of theatre, dance, circus, and urban art in Carpi
The Concentrico Festival is one of the most original performing arts events in Emilia-Romagna: a distributed, transdisciplinary, and site-specific festival that, every June, transforms the historic center of Carpi, in the province of Modena, into a large open-air stage. Theatre, contemporary dance, circus, music, and urban art leave conventional venues to occupy courtyards, squares, gardens, and forgotten spaces of the city, returned to the community through creativity.
What makes Concentrico unique is its most radical choice: the elimination of traditional stages and seating. The spectator does not watch from afar but enters the work, walks among the artists, and experiences it immersively and closely. This idea of theatre as an encounter makes the festival a true social laboratory, where art becomes a tool for urban regeneration and human connection.
In recent editions, the event's focal point has shifted to the San Rocco area, a less frequented part of the center that the festival helps to bring back to life. The San Rocco Cloister hosts theatre, dance, and immersive performances; the Meridiana Square hosts street shows and site-specific contemporary circus; the San Rocco Garden is the venue for free evening concerts (Concentrico Plus section) and workshops for children; the San Rocco Auditorium opens and closes the festival, while Piazza Martiri and Piazza Re Astolfo become stages for street artists.
Alongside the main program, the festival offers Concentrico Junior, with creative workshops and activities for children and families, and Concentrico Plus, a series of free evening concerts in green spaces. Most events are free to enter: only the more structured theatre and dance performances require a modest ticket, confirming the event's accessible and popular vocation.
Conceived and organized by the Associazione Culturale AppenAppena APS and directed since its inception by Andrea Rostovi and Maddalena Caliumi, Concentrico was born in 2015. In nine editions, it has attracted approximately 97,000 spectators, with over 266 shows and 587 artists involved, establishing itself as a benchmark event for contemporary theatre and performing arts in the Modena area and throughout Emilia-Romagna.
The eleventh edition of the Concentrico Festival takes place in Carpi from June 8th to 13th, 2026, confirming the formula of the distributed festival without stages or seating, with the heart of the event in the San Rocco area. Six evenings of immersive performances, including theatre, dance, contemporary circus, and music, spread across the San Rocco Cloister, Meridiana Square, Auditorium, San Rocco Garden, and Piazza Martiri.
The program blends major names from the Italian contemporary scene with international companies, with a constant focus on accessibility: most events are free, complemented by workshops in the Junior section and evening concerts of Concentrico Plus.
Every day, from June 8th to 13th, at 5:30 PM in the San Rocco Garden: creative workshops and activities for children and families organized by Cooperativa Giravolta.
Carpi is easily reachable by train (Carpi station on the Modena-Verona line) and by car from the A22 Brenner motorway (Carpi exit). The festival venues are all located in the historic center, reachable on foot.
Most events are free. Paid performances (from 10 to 15 euros) can be purchased online at www.concentricofestival.it, on the Dice platform, and at the Infopoint in Piazza Martiri during the event. Free entry for children up to 10 years old. Reservations: [email protected], tel. +39 338 2923478 (also WhatsApp).
Many performances are itinerant and immersive: wear comfortable shoes and arrive early, as spaces in smaller venues (like the Cloister) are limited.
