The traditional Easter fair along the historic walls of Como
The Como Easter Fair is one of the most traditional events in the city's calendar. It takes place along the historic walls, particularly on Viale Varese, and has its roots in Holy Week: historically known as the Maundy Thursday Fair, it originated from the ancient custom of pilgrimage to the nearby Basilica of the Most Holy Crucifix, a destination for the ritual of the ostension and kissing of the Crucifix.
For five days, from Maundy Thursday to Easter Monday, Viale Varese hosts 166 stalls with a vast offering: local gastronomic excellences, typical Easter sweets, crafts, clothing, home goods, and street food. Simultaneously, along Viale Battisti and Viale Cattaneo, the Mercato delle Mercerie (Haberdashery Market) is held, further expanding the offerings.
More than just a market, the Easter Fair is a moment of social gathering and tradition that marks the holidays in Como, the capital of the homonymous Province in Lombardy. On Good Friday, the fair coexists with the historic procession that starts from the Basilica of the Crucifix, intertwining religious dimension and popular festival in one of the most heartfelt moments of the Como year. Strolling among the stalls along the walls, with the lake and the historic center as a backdrop, is an experience that combines shopping, gastronomy, and tradition, attracting residents and visitors from all over the province of Como and nearby Switzerland.
The 2026 edition runs from April 2 to 6 with 166 exhibitors along Viale Varese and the Mercato delle Mercerie on Viale Battisti and Viale Cattaneo. Among the stalls: local gastronomic excellences, typical Easter sweets, crafts, clothing, home goods, and street food. On Good Friday (April 3), the fair coincides with the procession from the Basilica of the Most Holy Crucifix.
