The anniversary of the Victory of Vittorio Veneto and the Day of National Unity and the Armed Forces
Vittorio Veneto, in the province of Treviso, is inextricably linked to November 4th: it was here, between October 24th and November 4th, 1918, that the Battle of Vittorio Veneto was fought, the decisive offensive that led to the end of World War I on the Italian front. This is why the city experiences the anniversary with a very special intensity.
The celebrations begin with the laying of the wreath at the Monument to the Knights of Vittorio Veneto, on Viale Vittorio Emanuele II. The procession then moves to Piazza del Popolo for the solemn commemoration ceremony for the fallen, with the flag-raising in the presence of civil, military, and religious authorities, and veterans' associations. In the afternoon, at the Shrine of the Flags in the Serravalle cattle market, Holy Mass is celebrated in memory of the fallen; the celebrations conclude with the flag lowering.
The Day of National Unity and the Armed Forces in Vittorio Veneto is much more than a civil commemoration: it is the moment when the city renews the memory of its history and the role it played in 1918. The day typically concludes with an evening concert at the Lorenzo Da Ponte Theatre dedicated to the City of Victory.
The 2026 edition of the November 4th celebrations renews the memory of the 1918 battle in Vittorio Veneto. The program includes at 9:30 AM the laying of the wreath at the Monument to the Knights of Vittorio Veneto on Viale Vittorio Emanuele II; the procession then moves to Piazza del Popolo for the solemn ceremony with flag-raising, in the presence of civil, military, and religious authorities, and veterans' associations. At 4:00 PM, at the Shrine of the Flags in the Serravalle cattle market, Holy Mass is celebrated in memory of the fallen; at 5:00 PM, in Piazza del Popolo, the flag lowering concludes the official part. In the evening, at 9:00 PM, the "Concert for the City of Victory" will be held at the Lorenzo Da Ponte Theatre. Traffic modifications are expected in the city center in the morning.
