Sarmede, the Land of Fairy Tales

In the hills of the province of Treviso, the small village of Sarmede is known throughout Europe as the "Land of Fairy Tales". Here, since 1983, the Bohemian artist Štěpán Zavřel brought Le Immagini della Fantasia to life, an international exhibition of illustration for childhood, now promoted by the Foundation of the same name and hosted in the Casa della Fantasia.

Hundreds of original works

Each edition gathers a rich collection of original works – over two hundred illustrations – from artists worldwide, selected around themes and guest countries that change year by year. The exhibition represents a unique overview of the art of children's book illustration, from tradition to contemporary trends.

Workshops, courses, and schools

Le Immagini della Fantasia is not just an exhibition: the Zavřel Foundation organises workshops for schools, workshops for illustrators, and activities for families and children, making Sarmede a true centre for the training and dissemination of image culture. The very facades of the village houses, decorated with fairy-tale murals, extend the exhibition outdoors.

A cultural heritage of the Veneto

With its long history, the exhibition has become an eagerly awaited event for illustrators, publishers, teachers, and families, capable of attracting visitors from all over Italy and abroad to Sarmede throughout the autumn-winter season.
