The festival of colors of the Modenese Apennines, in Maserno di Montese
Color Day Maserno is one of the most anticipated summer events in the hamlet of Maserno, in the Municipality of Montese, in the province of Modena. Organized by the Pro Loco Montese, the event brings the energy of color festivals inspired by the Indian tradition of Holi to the Emilian Apennines: clouds of colored powders thrown together into the air that transform participants and the entire square into a living rainbow.
The heart of the festival is the collective throwing of colored powders, non-toxic and washable powders that, thrown into the air to the rhythm of music, create a spectacular effect of bright colors. Between one throw and another, the day continues with music and entertainment, in a young and festive atmosphere that involves young people, families, and groups of friends. It is an event designed for being together outdoors, dancing, and having carefree fun in the green heart of the Modenese mountains.
Participation is open to all, but the organization recommends some precautions: children under 14 must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult, while young people aged 14 and over can participate independently by presenting the form for unaccompanied minors and a photocopy of the parent's ID. To avoid waiting at the entrance, a pre-registration form is available online on the Pro Loco Montese website.
Maserno is one of the most lively hamlets of Montese, a municipality in the upper Modenese Apennines bordering the province of Bologna and Tuscany. A territory made of chestnut woods, mountain panoramas, and a dense network of events promoted by the Pro Loco throughout the summer season. Color Day is part of this calendar as the most colorful and lighthearted event of the summer, capable of attracting participants even from neighboring towns.
Color Day is traditionally held in August, in the heart of the Apennine summer season. The day starts in the afternoon and continues until evening, accompanied by music and color throws that mark the program.
The Pro Loco Montese has confirmed the holding of Color Day Maserno for Saturday, August 8, 2026, in Maserno. This year again, the festival will offer its tried-and-tested formula of music, entertainment, and collective colored powder throws. For participation, online pre-registration is recommended via the form published on the Pro Loco website. The detailed program with times and evening details will be communicated by the organization closer to the event.
Please note that children under 14 must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult, while young people aged 14 and over can participate independently with the form for unaccompanied minors.
