The Carnival of Colle di Val d'Elsa featuring parades, costumes, and fun
Every year, during the Carnival season, the town of Colle di Val d'Elsa in the province of Siena comes alive with Colle Maschere, an event that brings local carnival traditions to the streets. The festivities animate Piazza Arnolfo and the entire lower part of the city, which for one Sunday turns into a vibrant, open-air stage filled with color, music, and joy.
The highlight of the event is the costumed group parade, featuring participants from all over the city. Carefully choreographed performances, original costumes, and imaginative disguises parade through the town center, accompanied by music and entertainment. It is a celebration designed primarily for children and families, yet it successfully engages the entire local community.
Alongside the parade, the program features the traditional pentolaccia (piรฑata game), games, dancing, and various entertainment segments. There is also space for competitions dedicated to schools and associations, with special prizes awarded to the most creative and original entries; throughout the afternoon, the best costumes are recognized in a spirit of friendly competition and fun.
Colle Maschere is the result of the hard work of numerous local entities. The event is coordinated by the Colle Maschere committee, led by the La Scossa association, which has been upholding the tradition of the local Carnival for years. The organization is supported by the Pro Loco, GRG La Badia, the Senelegase Committee, the Pubblica Assistenza, Mosaico, the Salesiani Don Bosco, and the Risto e Bar Committee, along with many other local associations.
Known as the "city of crystal," Colle di Val d'Elsa is one of the most charming villages in Tuscany, situated halfway between Siena and San Gimignano. Experiencing the Carnival here means combining a day of popular festivities with the discovery of a historic center rich in art and history, nestled in the landscape of the Sienese Valdelsa.
The local Carnival returned on Sunday, February 15, 2026, beginning at 3:00 PM in Piazza Arnolfo and the lower part of the city. A Sunday dedicated to fun for children, teenagers, and families.
The heart of the celebration was the costumed group parade, with participants from across the city showcasing choreography, original costumes, and imaginative disguises. The afternoon was enlivened by the traditional pentolaccia, music, entertainment, and a magic show. There was also room for competitions for schools and associations, with awards given for the most beautiful costumes and the most creative disguises.
Event organized by the Colle Maschere committee / La Scossa association with the Pro Loco and numerous local associations.
