About CircoInFest

CircoInFest is the contemporary circus festival hosted by the Teatro di Roma, the first of its kind to feature New Circus within the official program of an Italian National Theatre. Every summer, between late June and July, the outdoor spaces of Teatro India and the park of Villa Torlonia come alive with the Circo El Grito big top, featuring acrobatics, clowning, and juggling for all ages in the heart of Rome, Lazio.

CircoInFest, contemporary circus arrives at the Teatro di Roma

CircoInFest is the festival dedicated to contemporary New Circus promoted by the Teatro di Roma - Teatro Nazionale, the first event of its kind hosted by an Italian National Theatre. Launched in 2023, the festival transforms the outdoor spaces of Teatro India in the Ostiense district and the greenery of Villa Torlonia in Municipio II into a dual stage of poetry, skill, and wonder every summer, in the heart of Rome, Lazio.

The Circo El Grito big top

The heart of the festival is the Circo El Grito big top, the visionary company founded by Fabiana Ruiz Diaz and Giacomo Costantini, which sets up its tent in the outdoor area of Teatro India. Under the big top, performances blend aerial acrobatics, live music, theater, and juggling, creating shows that captivate both adults and children alike.

Two venues, one celebration

Alongside Teatro India, the Campo dei Tornei at Villa Torlonia hosts an outdoor stage featuring contemporary circus companies, clowning, and comedy. Between acts, the audience can enjoy Roman summer evenings in a convivial atmosphere, with free concerts and events that also involve the Teatro dell'Opera and local city districts.

A festival for families

CircoInFest places great emphasis on younger audiences. The festival participates in the Sciroppo di Teatro cultural welfare project, a true "prescription" for shows signed by pediatricians: a formula that, through discounted rates, encourages family participation and makes live culture accessible to everyone.

Contemporary circus in the heart of Rome

With its atmosphere suspended between poetry and amazement, CircoInFest has brought the language of New Circus into the official programming of a National Theatre for the first time, confirming Rome as one of the Italian capitals of contemporary circus arts. The festival, which takes place between late June and July, is now a highly anticipated event of the Roman summer in Lazio.
