The contemporary circus festival by the Teatro di Roma
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
CircoInFest is the festival dedicated to contemporary New Circus promoted by the Teatro di Roma - Teatro Nazionale, the first event of its kind hosted by an Italian National Theatre. Launched in 2023, the festival transforms the outdoor spaces of Teatro India in the Ostiense district and the greenery of Villa Torlonia in Municipio II into a dual stage of poetry, skill, and wonder every summer, in the heart of Rome, Lazio.
The heart of the festival is the Circo El Grito big top, the visionary company founded by Fabiana Ruiz Diaz and Giacomo Costantini, which sets up its tent in the outdoor area of Teatro India. Under the big top, performances blend aerial acrobatics, live music, theater, and juggling, creating shows that captivate both adults and children alike.
Alongside Teatro India, the Campo dei Tornei at Villa Torlonia hosts an outdoor stage featuring contemporary circus companies, clowning, and comedy. Between acts, the audience can enjoy Roman summer evenings in a convivial atmosphere, with free concerts and events that also involve the Teatro dell'Opera and local city districts.
CircoInFest places great emphasis on younger audiences. The festival participates in the Sciroppo di Teatro cultural welfare project, a true "prescription" for shows signed by pediatricians: a formula that, through discounted rates, encourages family participation and makes live culture accessible to everyone.
With its atmosphere suspended between poetry and amazement, CircoInFest has brought the language of New Circus into the official programming of a National Theatre for the first time, confirming Rome as one of the Italian capitals of contemporary circus arts. The festival, which takes place between late June and July, is now a highly anticipated event of the Roman summer in Lazio.
The Teatro di Roma has not yet released the official program for the 2026 edition of CircoInFest. The dates indicated are tentative and follow the festival's usual summer window (late June - July). This page will be updated as soon as the calendar, shows, and ticket information are published.
Teatro India is located on Lungotevere Vittorio Gassman, in the Ostiense district of Rome, accessible by car and public transport (buses and the nearby Trastevere and Ostiense stations). Villa Torlonia, home to the Campo dei Tornei, is located on Via Lazzaro Spallanzani in Municipio II, served by buses in the Nomentana area.
Shows under the big top and at Villa Torlonia are ticketed at affordable prices; numerous concerts and side events are free to attend. Booking via the Teatro di Roma box office is recommended.
As these are outdoor summer performances, light clothing is recommended, and arriving a little early is advised.
