Great auteur cinema under the stars in Altamura
CineFiladelfia is an open-air film festival held in the garden of the Baptist Evangelical Church of Altamura, in the Murgia city in the province of Bari, Puglia. Established in 2024, the event is organized by the Baptist Evangelical Church of Altamura together with the Filadelfia Association, under the artistic direction of the Cineclub Formiche Verdi. Every summer, it offers a selection of international auteur films, chosen from the most acclaimed and discussed titles at major festivals, from Cannes to Venice, and from Sundance to the Oscars.
The festival consists of four free events, one every Wednesday, with screenings starting at 8:30 PM. Each edition is built around a thematic thread that crosses distant cultures and geographies: past editions have explored justice, peace, and rights, while in 2026, the journey revolves around the theme of freedom. The films come from different countries—Brazil, North Macedonia, China, Mexico—offering the audience a journey through vastly different geographical and cultural contexts.
More than just a summer cinema, CineFiladelfia serves as a space for sharing, social interaction, and reflection open to the entire city of Altamura. The open-air screenings in the garden of the Filadelfia Cultural Center at Via Aosta 61 turn summer evenings into opportunities to gather around great cinema, with free admission as a gesture of openness to the entire community.
The festival is part of the rich summer calendar of Altamura, a city known for its PDO bread, its Swabian cathedral, and the Alta Murgia National Park. CineFiladelfia adds a high-quality cinematic offering to the town's cultural scene, bringing titles to the province of Bari that are often difficult to see in traditional theaters.
The 2026 edition of CineFiladelfia, the third for the festival, unfolds over four open-air evenings in Altamura, with a program that draws an ideal itinerary on the theme of freedom. The screenings, all with free admission, are held in the garden of the Baptist Evangelical Church at Via Aosta 61 at 8:30 PM, under the artistic direction of the Cineclub Formiche Verdi.
The selection brings together four award-winning films from four different countries, for a journey through cultures and cinematographies far from one another.
All screenings start at 8:30 PM in the garden of the Baptist Evangelical Church, at Via Aosta 61 in Altamura.
