A medieval village that lights up for Christmas

Perched in the hills of Ciociaria, halfway between Frosinone and Ceccano, the town of Pofi boasts a historic center that seems tailor-made for Christmas: narrow alleys, stone arches, stairways, and a panoramic square overlooking the Sacco Valley. It is here that the Municipality of Pofi, in the province of Frosinone, hosts Christmas Village every year, a widespread event spanning nearly an entire month, from early December until Epiphany.

Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, the heart of the festivities

The hub of the event is Piazza Vittorio Emanuele, where characteristic wooden chalets are set up to house artisans, local producers, and food stalls. As Mayor Angelo Mattoccia noted when presenting the event, this is no ordinary Christmas, but a journey through traditional crafts, local delicacies, warm treats, and seasonal sweets, designed so families can spend an entire day in town.

Among the chalets, Santa's Village comes to life, featuring Santa's House, creative workshops, entertainment, and shows dedicated to children. Colorful lights throughout the village streets, Christmas music and carols, nativity scenes, local crafts, and games complete the atmosphere.

Luci dal Parco

At the Public Recreational Park, the Luci dal Parco (Lights from the Park) light trail is inaugurated—a path of illuminated installations and silhouettes that remains open throughout the Christmas period until Epiphany. The inauguration is accompanied by a show featuring Christmas elves and angels, which is particularly popular with children.

Christmas market and street food

On days dedicated to the Christmas Market and Street Food, the square fills with stalls offering local gastronomic specialties, crafts, gift ideas, and live music. It is the perfect opportunity to taste the flavors of Ciociaria cuisine in their winter version, including cheeses, cured meats, traditional sweets, and warm street food.

A deep-rooted Christmas tradition

The Christmas Village is part of a broader local tradition: in Pofi, the Christmas season has for years been marked by the living nativity scene organized by the parishes of Santa Maria Maggiore and San Rocco. It brings a biblical and gastronomic journey through the medieval alleys, with the opening of historic cellars and songs performed by the 'Folklore pofano' group. These initiatives combined make the town one of the most popular Christmas destinations in the province of Frosinone.

An itinerary that can easily be combined with a visit to other Ciociaria villages such as Ceccano, Ceprano, Arnara, or Ripi.
