The historic Christmas village in the gardens of the Prati district
Every winter, the gardens of Piazza Mazzini become one of the most beloved Christmas destinations in Rome. In the refined Prati district, within the territory of Municipality I of the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, the historic Christmas Market — also known as the Piazza Mazzini Village — transforms the large circular square into an enchanting hamlet of illuminated chalets. It is a recurring event that accompanies Romans throughout the holiday season, from the Immaculate Conception to Epiphany, and has become a staple of the neighborhood's Christmas tradition.
The heart of the setup is the traditional 67 wooden chalets, arranged harmoniously around the scenic 1930s central fountain. Immersed among holm oaks, cypresses, and hedges, the chalets enhance the recently restored gardens and restore all its elegance to the square. Strolling through the sparkling lights, you can discover:
Between one stall and another, there is no shortage of typical Christmas scents and flavors. Alongside traditional sweets, stalls dedicated to hot chocolate and cotton candy have appeared, perfect for adults and children during evening strolls among the illuminated chalets.
The market has free admission and is open every day, from morning until evening, offering music and magical moments suitable for the whole family. Its central location, in one of the most elegant squares in Prati and just a short walk from the Vatican, makes it an ideal stop to combine Christmas shopping with a walk through the neighborhood.
The Piazza Mazzini Market is a historic and recurring event, organized under a multi-year concession by the company Maf, chaired by Francesca Alessandri. For years, it has represented one of the most characteristic Christmas appointments in Rome and the Lazio region, capable of attracting families, residents, and visitors who find the same warm and festive atmosphere here every December.
From December 1, 2025, to January 6, 2026, the recently restored gardens of Piazza Mazzini hosted the most recent edition of the historic Christmas Village of the Prati district. The 67 wooden chalets were arranged around the scenic central fountain, among holm oaks and cypresses, with a well-curated and light-filled setup.
The offerings ranged from local handicrafts to Christmas decorations, from nativity scenes to traditional holiday sweets, as well as antiques and gift ideas. Among the novelties of this edition were the stalls dedicated to hot chocolate and cotton candy. Admission remained free, open every day until evening.
