Live music, beer, and street food in the mountains of Garessio
The Cheers Music and Beer Festival has become a staple of the summer in Garessio, a mountain town in the province of Cuneo overlooking the upper Tanaro Valley in Piedmont. Every August, the skating rink on Via Aleramo transforms into a large open-air stage where live music, craft beers, and street food come together in a convivial and popular atmosphere.
The festival was founded in 2022 by four friends with the goal of keeping Garessio's long-standing beer festival tradition alive. In just a few years, the event has become a well-established fixture, capable of drawing hundreds of people and involving the entire town: associations, the Pro Loco, the Municipality of Garessio, and individual citizens all collaborate to make each edition possible, with positive impacts on local tourism, dining, and commerce.
Over the years, Cheers has brought prominent artists from the Italian music scene to Garessio: from comedian Gabri Gabra to harmonica player and beatboxer Moses Concas, and even the legendary Punkreas. The festival continues to grow with increasingly important headliners, reflecting the ambition of an event that starts in the provinces to engage with the national music scene.
The beating heart of the festival is the Cheers Music Contest, dedicated to emerging bands. Five selected groups compete by performing their own songs and covers, evaluated by both a qualified jury of artists and journalists and the public vote. The contest offers young musicians a stage with professional-level technical equipment, the same used by the guest artists of the main evenings.
Alongside the music, the festival offers a rich selection of beers for all tastes and delicious, creative street food. Admission is free, and the atmosphere is typical of Piedmontese village festivals: relaxed, festive, and welcoming to families, young people, and music lovers alike. For those traveling from afar, the Pro Loco provides a tent area, making Cheers a perfect mini-vacation in the Cuneo mountains.
