The Aosta Valley cattle breed takes centre stage in the Unité des Communes Grand-Combin
The cattle show in Etroubles is one of the spring events dedicated to the Aosta Valley breed, the pride of mountain farming in the region. The event is held in Etroubles, a municipality in the upper Gran San Bernardo valley in the Province of Aosta, and represents the Unité des Communes Grand-Combin's stop on the regional calendar.
The spring shows are the time when breeders present their animals to the public and experts, in a competition that highlights the quality of the Aosta Valley breed and the work of the local Sociétés d'Elevage (Breeding Associations). The Aosta Valley breed, perfectly adapted to high-altitude pastures, is also the star of the famous Batailles de Reines, the traditional non-violent cow fights that characterise the region's cattle farming culture.
The initiative is coordinated by the Arev - Association régionale éleveurs valdôtains (Regional Association of Aosta Valley Breeders), which organises a series of shows in spring across various municipalities in the region, leading up to the major central events in Aosta, such as the Concours Reina dou Lacë and the regional cattle market.
The cattle show in Etroubles is scheduled for April 16, 2026, and is the stop for the Unité des Communes Grand-Combin on the spring calendar of Aosta Valley cattle shows. The event, coordinated by Arev, showcases the Aosta Valley breed and the work of local breeders and Sociétés d'Elevage.
Etroubles is located along the SS27 of Gran San Bernardo, about 16 km from Aosta (Aosta exit on the A5 motorway). The event takes place in the municipal areas dedicated to the show.
