The Easter Monday march through the Scaliger castles
La Castellana – La Marcia dei Castelli is one of the most beloved events on Easter Monday in Montecchio Maggiore, in the province of Vicenza. In 2026, the event celebrates its 20th edition, reaffirming itself as a classic of the Vicenza Easter Monday.
The non-competitive march offers two routes, approximately 9 and 14 kilometers long, starting from the Polisportivo in via del Vigo and ending at Romeo's Castle (Castello della Villa), one of the two Scaliger manors that tradition links to the story of Romeo and Juliet. It's a scenic route through the hills and castles that overlook the town.
Upon arrival, the castle transforms into the stage for a popular festival: traditional cuisine, music, folklore, and inflatables for children liven up the day until evening. It's a convivial moment that combines light sport, nature, and community celebration.
Castellana is organized by the association Amici della Città di Montecchio (Friends of the City of Montecchio) with free admission, and is designed to involve walkers, families, and enthusiasts of all ages.
The 2026 edition of Castellana, the 20th, is scheduled for Monday, April 6, Easter Monday. The non-competitive march, organized by the Amici della Città di Montecchio, leads to Romeo's Castle, where the day continues with a popular festival until evening.
Montecchio Maggiore is on the A4 motorway (Montecchio Maggiore exit). Start from the Polisportivo in via del Vigo, finish at Romeo's Castle.
Free admission. Info: Amici della Città di Montecchio, [email protected].
