The grand parade of allegorical floats in the center of San Mauro Pascoli
The Carnival for All is one of the most deeply rooted events in the winter calendar of San Mauro Pascoli, a small municipality in the Province of Forlì-Cesena, in Emilia-Romagna, the birthplace of the poet Giovanni Pascoli. For almost forty years, on a Sunday in late winter, the historic center transforms into a grand festive route, with allegorical floats parading twice along the main streets and squares of the town.
The true protagonist is the allegorical float: every year, about twenty floats, built in local workshops by hundreds of volunteers over months of work, animate the parade with elaborate sets, music, and costumed participants. The themes range from the great classics of animation to current popular characters, including the Biroccio Romagnolo and groups more closely tied to local tradition. Floats from neighboring municipalities, from Bellaria to Gatteo, also participate in the parade.
The Carnival for All is designed primarily for children: costumed children ride on the floats or parade on foot and, during the passes, shower spectators with candy and confetti. The atmosphere is that of a great village festival, with families, grandparents, and young people gathering along the route.
The event is organized by the COAR (Comitato Attività Ricreative - Committee for Recreational Activities) of the parish of San Mauro Vescovo, with the patronage of the Municipality of San Mauro Pascoli. A great collective effort involving the entire community, which attracts thousands of people to the historic center every year.
The parade is accompanied by the traditional Carnival Lottery, with rich prizes drawn in the afternoon, and — in more recent editions — an evening event with a DJ set in Piazza Battaglini and tastings of ciambella, biscuits, and mulled wine.
The 38th edition of the Carnival for All was held on Sunday, February 1, 2026, in the historic center of San Mauro Pascoli. 18 allegorical floats paraded, the result of months of work by hundreds of volunteers in local workshops, with three floats coming from outside the municipality. The day featured two passes of the floats along the main streets of the town, preceded by a walking parade, amidst throws of candy and confetti.
As tradition dictates, the festival was dedicated to children and attracted thousands of people to the historic center.
Among the 18 floats in the parade: Peter Pan, The Explorers' Journey, Music in the Heart, Inside Out, Orso Speedy in zir par la Rumagna, Around the World, Mini Minions, Cosmic Pirates, Alice in Wonderland, Egypt, Sanmèvarfest, Il Biroccio Romagnolo, and I Contadimatti from Bellaria, as well as Super Mario from Gatteo.
