The Fontaneto d'Agogna carnival where folklore meets fine food
CarnevalGustoso is the carnival festival of Fontaneto d'Agogna, a town in the province of Novara, located in eastern Piedmont, just a stone's throw from Lake Orta and the Ghemme hills. Established in 2003 by the Pro Loco Fontaneto d'Agogna, it is a one-of-a-kind event that combines two spirits: the folklore of the carnival parade and the gastronomy of the village stalls. Hence the name, a play on words between "carnevale" (carnival) and "gustoso" (tasty).
The absolute stars are Pajin and Pajina, the two official masks of the Fontaneto carnival. Histrionic and ironic, they embody the popular spirit of the town and playfully poke fun at local habits and traditions: they lead the procession and kick off the festivities.
The heart of the day is the parade of allegorical floats and masquerade groups along the town center streets, starting from Piazza della Conciliazione. The event is animated by the historic and friendly rivalry between the districts of Fontaneto, which compete both with their masquerade groups and at the food stalls: each district sets up its own stand offering sweets, traditional dishes, and local wines, creating a true competition of flavors. The procession is accompanied by the music of the Banda Musicale Cittadina di Romagnano Sesia.
CarnevalGustoso is a deeply felt event in the local calendar: a Sunday when Fontaneto d'Agogna dresses up to welcome visitors of all ages, amidst confetti, costumes, and the aromas of Piedmontese cuisine. A perfect opportunity to discover an authentic corner of the province of Novara, far from the major tourist circuits.
On Sunday, February 8, 2026, Fontaneto d'Agogna hosted a new edition of CarnevalGustoso, organized by the Pro Loco. The festival enlivened the town center with a parade of allegorical floats and masquerade groups, opened as tradition dictates by the Pajin and Pajina masks and accompanied by the Banda Musicale Cittadina di Romagnano Sesia. There was no shortage of village food stalls, with the usual competition of flavors featuring sweets, traditional dishes, and local wines, alongside entertainment dedicated to the little ones.
In case of bad weather, the event was scheduled to be recovered on Sunday, March 2, 2026.
