The Caprarola Carnival in the heart of Tuscia

The Carnevale Caprolatto is the grand carnival celebration of Caprarola, a village in the Tuscia Viterbese region world-renowned for its Palazzo Farnese, a 16th-century masterpiece overlooking the Cimini Mountains. For ten days, from February 8th to 17th, 2026, the streets and squares of the historic center fill with masks, music, confetti, and allegorical floats in a popular and inclusive event that delights both young and old.

A widespread festival that unites the community

Promoted by the Municipality of Caprarola in collaboration with the Pro Loco Caprarola and the Comitato Sagra della Nocciola Classe '86, the Carnevale Caprolatto is designed as a widespread event that blends tradition with contemporary spirit. The program alternates between family-friendly activities, evening events, and the grand parades along Via Filippo Nicolai, which transforms into the shared stage for the festivities.

The allegorical float parades

The heart of the event lies in the two major parades: the Carnival Sunday parade, open to everyone and marking the start of the celebrations, and the Shrove Tuesday Parade, which concludes the event in style with floats, costumed groups, and organized troupes. The processions depart from the Scuderie di Palazzo Farnese and wind through the town center amidst music and dancing, arriving at the main square where the party continues with entertainment and tastings for participants in costume.

The children's carnival and the masquerade ball

There is plenty of space for the little ones with the Fat Thursday for Children, an afternoon of entertainment, games, and surprises hosted in the Salone delle Scuderie of Palazzo Farnese. For adults, the highlight of the evening is the Carnival Masquerade Ball, a masked party featuring dinner, music, and dancing in a convivial atmosphere.

Caprarola and the Carnival of Tuscia

The Carnevale Caprolatto is part of the rich carnival heritage of the province of Viterbo, a land of historic festivals like those in Ronciglione and Civita Castellana. In Caprarola, in northern Lazio, the festival is also an opportunity to discover the village, its famous Palazzo Farnese, and the local flavors, from traditional carnival sweets to the renowned hazelnuts of the Cimini Mountains.
