The first open-air photography gallery nestled within the walls of the village of Capraia, in Talla
Capraia Between Light and Color is a permanent, site-specific photography exhibition that transforms the streets of the small village of Capraia, a hamlet of Talla in the heart of the Casentino area near Arezzo, into an art space. Seventeen photographs are displayed along the alleys and stone walls of the village, creating a true gallery without walls that anyone can explore freely, at any time of the year.
The exhibition stems from the vision of young photographer Alessia Milaneschi, a graduate of the LABA (Free Academy of Fine Arts) in Florence. The images on display began as a thesis project and are the result of extensive fieldwork: seventeen shots selected from over two thousand photographs taken during more than two years of observing the village and its surrounding territory. The result is an intimate and poetic narrative composed of seasonal light, architecture, medieval glimpses, and daily details.
More than just an exhibition, Capraia Between Light and Color is an act of love for a village that refuses to fade away. Capraia, which had 207 inhabitants in 1841, is now home to only seventeen: the exhibition thus becomes a gesture of care and a reflection on the resilience of places and the importance of mountain communities as spaces of protection and continuity. The photographs speak of memory, enduring landscapes, invisible gestures, and elevated horizons.
The exhibition was inaugurated on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 11:00 AM, in the presence of about sixty people, including the Talla municipal administration, the Misericordia of Talla, the Pro Loco, and local associations. Since then, the exhibition has become a permanent part of the village, integrating into the urban landscape and offering locals and tourists a new reason to discover this corner of the Arezzo Apennines.
Capraia is a hamlet of the Municipality of Talla, in the Province of Arezzo, Tuscany. The exhibition route winds outdoors along the village streets and can be visited freely and free of charge all year round. A stroll through the stone alleys, with photographs engaging with the houses and the landscape, is the ideal opportunity to combine the discovery of a small Casentino village with a contemporary art experience immersed in nature.
