Wine Tourism in the Heart of Vulture

Cantine Aperte is the flagship event of the Movimento Turismo del Vino (Wine Tourism Movement), which every year, on the last weekend of May, opens wineries across Italy to the public. In the Vulture region, in the province of Potenza, companies from the Aglianico del Vulture area participate, including those in Barile, one of the municipalities most dedicated to viticulture.

Tours, Tastings, and Vineyards

For two days, the wineries welcome enthusiasts and the curious with guided tours, tastings, and meetings among the rows of vines and the evocative tuff caves. In Barile, in particular, it is possible to explore the Urban Park of the Cellars, the Sheshë, and visit local farms to discover up close the production of the great Lucanian red wine.

Vulture Italian City of Wine 2026

The 2026 edition falls in a special year: Vulture is proclaimed Italian City of Wine 2026, with a network of wine municipalities – Barile, Rionero in Vulture, Venosa, Rapolla, and other centers in the district – engaged in a widespread calendar of events. Cantine Aperte thus becomes part of a season of strong promotion for the territory and for Aglianico del Vulture DOC and DOCG.

Atmosphere and Local Context

Promoted in Basilicata by the Movimento Turismo del Vino, the event is an opportunity to experience the Vulture landscape, dominated by the extinct volcano and vineyards, and to learn about wine culture in one of the most fascinating areas of Southern Italy.
