The famous giant frying pan and thousands of portions of fried fish offered to everyone
The Camogli Fish Festival is one of the most famous and beloved events in Liguria. It is held in Camogli, a splendid fishing village in the Gulf of Paradise in the province of Genoa, on the second Sunday of May. Founded in 1952, it is world-renowned for its symbol: a gigantic stainless steel frying pan with a diameter of almost four meters, in which thousands of portions of fish are fried.
The highlight is on Sunday morning, when in Piazza Colombo, after the blessing of the pan and the fish, the great free frying and distribution begins: about thirty thousand portions of fish are offered to the crowd, in a gesture of sharing that is the heart of the festival's spirit. A frying station dedicated to celiacs is also available. The event is organized by the Pro Loco Camogli.
The festival is closely linked to the feast of the patron saint San Fortunato: on Saturday evening, the solemn religious procession with the Ark of the saint, the Christ figures of the Confraternities, the fireworks display, and the lighting of the traditional bonfires in the Camogli districts illuminate the village and the sea. A blend of sacred and popular that makes this festival unique.
With its tall, colorful houses overlooking the small harbor, Camogli is one of the pearls of the Riviera di Levante. The Fish Festival celebrates its maritime soul and inextricably links it to the fishing tradition, in a celebration that transforms the village into an open-air stage for tens of thousands of visitors every year.
The 2026 edition, the 74th, of the Camogli Fish Festival takes place from Friday, May 8 to Sunday, May 10. Friday opens the festival with gastronomic stands, music, and the flag-raising ceremony; Saturday features the religious procession with the Ark of San Fortunato, fireworks, and bonfires in the districts; Sunday, the main event, includes the blessing and the great frying in the giant pan with free fish distribution in Piazza Colombo, with a dedicated station for celiacs.
Camogli is served by the train station on the GenoaโLa Spezia line. By car from the Recco (A12) motorway exit; on festival days the village is very crowded and parking is limited, so taking the train is recommended. Golfo Paradiso ferries are also an option.
Fish distribution is on Sunday morning from 10 am in Piazza Colombo. Procession and fireworks on Saturday evening. Free fish distribution.
