A night of wine, a symphony of stars: three August evenings featuring Sannio wines, local flavors, and folk music
Calici di Stelle is the wine festival of Campoli del Monte Taburno, a small town of just over 1,600 inhabitants in the province of Benevento, in the heart of inland Campania. During the nights of the San Lorenzo shooting stars, the historic center of the village transforms into an open-air food and wine showcase: tasting stalls, booths featuring typical Sannio products, and live music enliven the alleys and squares from sunset until night. The motto chosen by the organizers perfectly summarizes the spirit of the event: «A night of wine, a symphony of stars. From sunset to sunrise.».
Calici di Stelle is not an isolated festival: it is the local iteration of a national event promoted by the Movimento Turismo del Vino, which every summer gathers wineries, villages, and wine-growing territories across Italy around the night of San Lorenzo. It is considered one of the most representative initiatives of Italian wine tourism, and in Campoli, the organization is entrusted to the local Youth Forum, with the patronage of the Municipality of Campoli del Monte Taburno. The national circuit is supported by ENIT – National Tourism Agency, FINE WineTourism Marketplace, REWINE, Italia a Tavola, Wine in Moderation, and RCR Cristalleria Italiana.
The heart of the festival is a food and wine journey that connects wine, landscape, and traditions: visitors move from stall to stall, sampling the output of local wineries paired with specialties of Sannio cuisine. The Aglianico del Taburno, the signature red wine of the massif's slopes, has always been the most celebrated wine of the event, in a hilly area with an ancient winemaking tradition. In addition to the tastings, there are guided educational sessions designed to introduce even casual drinkers to the world of wine.
Each evening concludes with a concert in the square. For years, the musical programming has favored Campanian folk music—tammurriate, tarantellas, and traditional dances—alternating with bands that reinterpret great Italian and international hits, as well as Mediterranean world music groups. The result is an intergenerational celebration: families, young people, and passing visitors mingle among the stalls and in front of the stage.
Campoli del Monte Taburno is located about 11 kilometers from Benevento and about forty kilometers from Naples, at the foot of the Taburno-Camposauro massif, the ridge whose profile has earned it the nickname «the Sleeping Beauty of Sannio». The historic center, compact and pedestrian-friendly, offers the ideal setting for an evening festival: the village lights, the view over the valley, and—on August nights—a sky particularly suited for watching shooting stars.
Calici di Stelle is considered the signature event of the Campoli summer. In August 2024, the festival reached its twenty-first edition, held on the usual dates of August 8, 9, and 10, serving as the opening for the forty-eighth Grape Festival, the town's other great winemaking tradition. The 2025 edition was canceled following a tragic loss that struck the community; its return in August 2026 was welcomed as the reclamation of a core identity event.
After last year's hiatus, when the event was canceled, Calici di Stelle returns to light up the summer of Campoli del Monte Taburno. From August 8 to 10, 2026, the village in the province of Benevento hosts a new edition of the national event promoted by the Movimento Turismo del Vino, under the motto «A night of wine, a symphony of stars. From sunset to sunrise.»
The program offers guided tastings accompanied by the best local gastronomic specialties, live music, cultural events, and entertainment. The common thread is a food and wine journey through the wine production of Sannio and local culinary specialties, an itinerary that connects wine, landscape, and traditions. Three evenings dedicated to local excellence, traditional flavors, and the beauty of the August sky, in an atmosphere that combines conviviality, culture, and local identity.
The event is organized by the Youth Forum of Campoli del Monte Taburno, with the patronage of the Municipality of Campoli del Monte Taburno. The 2026 national edition of Calici di Stelle is supported by ENIT – National Tourism Agency, FINE WineTourism Marketplace, REWINE, Italia a Tavola, Wine in Moderation, and RCR Cristalleria Italiana.
Each evening features a headliner on stage: the Campanian folk music of La Paranza Madonna di Bagni on August 8, the pop repertoire of Siderali on August 9, and the Mediterranean and ethnic sounds of Almaterra on August 10, the night of San Lorenzo. A new feature this year: the TerreCaudium Winery offers an aperitif immersed among the vines all three days, featuring local wines and zero-kilometer products.
Opening of the food and wine route in the historic center, with guided tastings and stalls featuring local specialties. In the evening, on stage: La Paranza Madonna di Bagni, bringing the charm of Campanian folk music to Campoli with engaging rhythms and traditional dances.
Second evening of tastings and Sannio flavors. Featuring Siderali, with an energetic and engaging show built on a repertoire of great Italian and international hits.
Closing evening on the night of San Lorenzo. The event concludes with Almaterra, whose sound blends Mediterranean traditions, folk music, ethnic influences, and contemporary fusions.
The TerreCaudium Winery organizes a special aperitif immersed among the vines, with tastings of local wines accompanied by authentic zero-kilometer flavors. Reservation recommended.
Detailed schedules for the individual evenings have not been released by the organizers: updates are published on the event's social media channels.
By car: Campoli del Monte Taburno is about 11 km from Benevento and about forty kilometers from Naples; the town can be reached via the Valle Vitulanese road network and the roads connecting Benevento to the eastern side of the Taburno.
By train: the reference station is Benevento, well-connected to Naples, Caserta, and Rome; from there, you must continue by car or bus to the village.
By plane: the nearest airport is Naples-Capodichino, about an hour's drive away.
As in all hillside villages, space near the historic center is limited: it is best to arrive early and expect a short walk.
The organizers have not released official prices for glasses and tastings. Updated information is published on the event's social media channels. The aperitif among the vines offered by the TerreCaudium Winery is available by reservation, which is recommended.

Outdoor evenings in the hills: even in August, a light sweater is useful after midnight. Wear comfortable shoes for the cobblestone streets of the historic center. For watching shooting stars, it is best to move slightly away from the village lights.
