The children's street carnival in the historic center of Budrio
The Budrio Carnival is one of the most beloved events of winter in the Municipality of Budrio, a town in the Bolognese plain in Emilia-Romagna. It is a child-friendly street carnival, which transforms Piazza Filopanti and the streets of the historic center into a large festive space, with masks, colorful costumes, and lots of entertainment for the whole family.
The heart of the event is the masked parade, followed by the traditional award ceremony for the most beautiful masks. Around the square, attractions multiply: magic shows, baby dance, face and glitter tattoo stations, bubble machines and giant bubbles, jugglers, themed costumed entertainers, and fire shows. There are also carousels, inflatables, and craft stalls that make the day an adventure for the little ones.
Between one mask and another, stalls offer typical seasonal sweets: roasted chestnuts, crepes, cotton candy, candies, and sweets of all kinds. Refreshment stands complete the offering, allowing families and visitors to spend the entire afternoon in the square amidst confetti and streamers.
In recent years, the Budrio Carnival has also combined celebration with an educational theme. The 2026 edition, titled "Maschere per tutti i gusti" (Masks for all tastes), focused on food and world cuisines to raise awareness about multiculturalism and integration among peoples, involving local schools. A way to transform the Carnival tradition into an opportunity for meeting and growth for children.
The event takes place in the historic center of Budrio, around Piazza Filopanti and the surrounding squares and streets, in a cozy and welcoming setting typical of the villages of the Emilia plain. Promoted by Pro Loco Budrio in collaboration with the Municipality, the Carnival is one of the events that best represent the community spirit of this town in the province of Bologna.
