About Budrio Carnival

When February arrives, the historic center of Budrio fills with confetti, colorful costumes, and laughter: it's the Budrio Carnival, the masked festival that the Pro Loco organizes every year together with the Municipality. A day designed especially for children and families, with a parade of masks crossing the town's squares, entertainment, awards for the best costumes, and many seasonal treats. A popular event that brings the entire Budrio community to the streets, in the heart of the Bolognese plain.

The Carnival that colors the squares of Budrio

The Budrio Carnival is one of the most beloved festivals of the Budrio winter: every year, between late January and the first days of March, the center of this Municipality in the Metropolitan City of Bologna, in Emilia-Romagna, transforms into a large space for games and celebration. It is organized by Pro Loco Budrio in collaboration with the Municipality of Budrio and local schools, in an event designed primarily for children and their families.

A masked parade through the streets of the town

The highlight is the parade of masks, which crosses the streets and squares of the center: in the 2026 edition, the procession started from Piazza Antonio da Budrio to reach Piazza Filopanti, the monumental heart of the town. Children, teenagers, and adults parade in their costumes, often prepared in the preceding weeks during workshops in kindergartens and primary schools.

Entertainment, sweets, and awards

A program full of entertainment for the little ones revolves around the parade. In various editions, there are:

  • entertainment, baby dance, and shows for children;
  • balloon twisting, face painting, giant bubbles, and jugglers;
  • stalls with sweets, cotton candy, crรชpes, and roasted chestnuts;
  • the award ceremony for the best costumes at the end of the festival.

Each year, the Pro Loco chooses a theme that serves as a common thread: from attention to the environment and sustainability to multiculturalism and integration between peoples, as expressed in the 2026 edition with the slogan "Masks for all tastes".

A community celebration

More than a grand carnival with floats, Budrio's is an authentic village festival, strongly linked to schools and local associations. It's the perfect opportunity to discover the historic center of Budrio, with its beautiful Piazza Filopanti, and experience the genuine atmosphere of a tradition that involves the entire town in the Bolognese plain every year.

Budrio Carnival โ€” edition 2026

The 2026 edition of the Budrio Carnival took place on Saturday, February 7, with the theme "Masks for all tastes," dedicated to food as an opportunity to raise awareness about multiculturalism and integration between peoples. The masked parade, organized by the Pro Loco with the Municipality of Budrio and the Sacro Cuore Kindergarten, crossed the center from Piazza Antonio da Budrio to Piazza Filopanti.

The Budrio Carnival 2026 was held on Saturday, February 7, in the town center. The theme chosen by the Pro Loco, "Masks for all tastes," focused on food as a tool to discuss multiculturalism and integration between peoples, as part of the "ConCittadini" project dedicated to peace among peoples.

In the preceding weeks, children participated in readings on diversity and graphic-pictorial workshops, creating masks inspired by their favorite foods. On the day of the festival, the parade crossed the historic center led by the banner "Foods without borders," starting from Piazza Antonio da Budrio and ending in Piazza Filopanti. The initiative was organized by the Pro Loco in collaboration with the Municipality of Budrio and the Sacro Cuore Kindergarten.
