The Trentino amateur theatre season at the Teatro Luigi Pirandello in Civezzano
The Bruno Palaoro Theatre Festival is an amateur theatre season that brings the Teatro Comunale Luigi Pirandello in Civezzano to life every year. This small town in the province of Trento overlooks the Valsugana valley, in the heart of Trentino-Alto Adige. The festival is organized by the Compagnia Filodrammatica Civezzano APS, in collaboration with the Municipality of Civezzano, and runs from October to March with a series of Saturday evening performances.
The Compagnia Filodrammatica di Civezzano traces its roots back to 1890 and has been a cultural landmark for the community for over a century. In May 2004, the inauguration of the new Municipal Theatre, dedicated to Luigi Pirandello, provided a permanent home for the company and its season. The festival is named after Bruno Palaoro, an unforgettable member of the group who passed away prematurely, whose memory the Filodrammatica wished to honour.
Each season features about ten performances, mostly brilliant comedies, with a strong presence of plays in the Trentino dialect alongside works in Italian. Amateur theatre companies from all over Trentino take turns on stage, creating a genuine exchange between the region's amateur groups. The Compagnia Filodrammatica Civezzano itself usually opens and closes the season with its own productions.
Performances usually begin at 8:45 PM, with affordable ticket prices and the option to purchase a season ticket for the entire programme. The festival is designed for families and audiences of all ages, and alongside it, the company also presents a festival dedicated to children, "Il Grillo Parlante". Attending the Bruno Palaoro Festival means experiencing an authentic evening of popular Trentino theatre in the intimate and welcoming setting of the Teatro Pirandello.
