The widespread literary festival celebrating local authors and stories
Brescia da leggere is the widespread literary festival of the Lombard capital, conceived and directed by the Associazione Brescia si legge in collaboration with the Urban Library System and the Municipality of Brescia. Its hallmark is proximity: encounters take place in the city's libraries, bookstores, and cultural institutions, bringing literature close to readers in a "zero-kilometer" format.
The program intertwines genres, themes, and voices: from big names in contemporary fiction to emerging authors selected by the association, with incursions into poetry, investigative journalism, and essays. Particular attention is paid to authors from Brescia and local stories, in line with the festival's mission to promote the local literary scene.
In a single weekend, the festival offers dozens of encounters spread across numerous city venues. Talks, presentations, dialogues, and editorial previews follow one another from morning to evening, offering the public a wide choice of different themes: from fiction to poetry, up to current trends in the publishing market.
Supported by local entities, Brescia da leggere has grown to become one of the most anticipated cultural events of the Brescian spring. Making reading a collective and widespread moment means strengthening the bond between the city and its authors, and confirming Brescia as a vibrant cultural hub in the Lombard landscape.
The 5th edition of Brescia da leggere is held on Saturday, May 9, and Sunday, May 10, 2026, with over 30 books presented in 15 venues among libraries, bookstores, and cultural institutions in the city. The zero-kilometer festival traverses genres, themes, and voices, from established authors to emerging ones.
Among the emerging authors selected by Brescia si legge are Simone Civitelli, Alessandro Braga, Francesca Ghezzani, and Francesca Butti, with works ranging from fiction to investigative journalism to poetry.
