About Brass in Jazz

Brass in Jazz is the historic concert season hosted by the The Brass Group Foundation. Every year, from November to April, it transforms the Real Teatro Santa Cecilia in Palermo into the home of Sicilian jazz. Featuring the Orchestra Jazz Siciliana as the resident ensemble alongside a long list of international guests, the season offers dozens of concerts, including orchestral productions, world premieres, and tributes to the legends of African American music. It is a cornerstone of the city's musical culture, located in the heart of the Kalsa district.

Brass in Jazz: Palermo's home for jazz

Brass in Jazz is the signature concert season presented by the The Brass Group Foundation, one of Italy's longest-running and most prestigious jazz institutions, based in Palermo, Sicily. For over half a century, this Palermo-based institution has been dedicated to promoting jazz through concerts, educational programs, and original productions, making its winter season one of the most anticipated cultural events in the Sicilian capital.

The Real Teatro Santa Cecilia

The heart of the festival is the Real Teatro Santa Cecilia, an 18th-century gem in the Kalsa district, restored as a temple of Mediterranean jazz. Every week, from Thursday to Sunday, the venue fills with audiences eager to hear the Orchestra Jazz Siciliana, the Foundation's resident ensemble, joined by world-class soloists and vocalists. The program, spanning several months, alternates between orchestral productions, tributes to jazz masters, and original projects created specifically for the season.

A program blending tradition and new stories

Each edition features a series of thematic titles, each performed over multiple nights, totaling dozens of concerts. The common thread is the narrative of the "music of our time": from swing to soul, and from orchestral jazz to fusions with pop and Italian songwriting. Alongside the performances by the Orchestra Jazz Siciliana, the stage hosts exceptional guests, including Grammy-winning vocalists and some of the most sought-after instrumentalists on the international scene.

  • Orchestra Jazz Siciliana as the core resident ensemble
  • Orchestral productions, world premieres, and European exclusives
  • International guests and major names in Italian songwriting
  • Double performance schedule on weekends

A cultural landmark for Palermo

Supported by the Municipality of Palermo and regional institutions, Brass in Jazz is much more than just a festival: it is an educational and cultural hub that, under the recurring theme of "growing through music," engages young musicians, students, and enthusiasts alike. Attending a night during the season means experiencing a piece of Italian jazz history in one of the Mediterranean's most fascinating cities.
