Masked parties for the little ones in the heart of Bondeno
In the heart of the Bassa ferrarese region, the Municipality of Bondeno (Province of Ferrara, Emilia-Romagna) dedicates Carnival to an event designed primarily for the children and young people of the area. Far from the grand float parades of nearby cities, the Carnival here has a village spirit: people play, dress up, and gather in the municipal community centers, where families spend an afternoon of celebration away from the cold Padan winter.
In 2026, the Children's Carnival was included in a broader program titled "To each their own festival", initiated by the Municipal Administration to offer each age group its own moment of carefree fun on the same weekend. The youngest children, from nursery and primary schools, had their masked Carnival; middle schoolers celebrated San Valentino, while the historic center came alive with activities for adults and couples.
The festival is the result of the work of Spazio 29 and the Pro Loco of Bondeno, with the support of the Municipality. These are the same local associations that, throughout the year, animate the calendar of events in the Matilde di Canossa territory, from historical fairs to food festivals. The Carnival represents one of the most anticipated moments of winter, capable of involving entire families with confetti, music, and traditional sweets.
More than a spectacle to watch, the Bondeno Carnival is an experience to live: children arrive in costume, participate in organized games like the "mask in the square" hunt, revel among streamers and sweets, and conclude the day with convivial moments. It demonstrates how, even in the small towns of Emilia-Romagna, Carnival traditions continue to be an occasion for meeting and celebration for the entire community.
The 2026 Bondeno Carnival was included in the "To each their own festival" program, initiated by the Municipal Administration to ensure each age group had its own moment of celebration. Saturday, February 14, combined Carnival and San Valentino: the youngest in costume, and middle schoolers as the protagonists of the evening party.
Mayor Simone Saletti and councilor Francesca Aria Poltronieri emphasized the desire to offer "all the young people of our territory" dedicated moments of carefree fun. The organization of the Children's Carnival was handled by Spazio 29 and the Pro Loco of Bondeno.
