About Flower Festival

The Bolzano Flower Festival is the oldest and most beloved spring event in the South Tyrolean capital. Established in 1888, it transforms Piazza Walther into a vast open-air garden every year in late April. Between April 30th and May 1st, local florists and nurseries display plants, flowers, and artisanal products, accompanied by concerts, acrobatic shows, guided botanical tours, and children's workshops. A free event in the heart of Bolzano that officially welcomes the beautiful season.

The Bolzano Flower Festival

The Flower Festival is one of the most deep-rooted and cherished traditions in Bolzano, the capital of the Autonomous Province of Bolzano in Trentino-Alto Adige. Born in 1888 as a small plant and flower market in Piazza delle Erbe, it has evolved over the decades into a major city event now held in the scenic Piazza Walther, the city's pedestrian heart. Every spring, spanning the end of April and the beginning of May, the square fills with colors and scents, becoming a true open-air garden for two days.

A garden in the city center

During the festival, South Tyrolean nurseries and florists set up their stands with a rich selection of ornamental plants, seasonal flowers, aromatic herbs, and artisanal products. Visitors can stroll through floral arrangements, receive advice from green experts, and purchase plants for their own balconies or gardens. The event is organized by the Bolzano Tourist Board in collaboration with local growers, who contribute every year to decorating the square with ever-changing displays.

Music, shows, and activities

The Flower Festival is more than just a market: the program features live concerts, traditional dance performances, acrobatic shows, stilt-walker parades, and guided botanical tours. A large space is dedicated to children, with creative workshops, puppet theater, and family entertainment. The official inauguration is traditionally marked by the characteristic sound of ceramic bells, a signature moment of this Bolzano event.

Practical information

The Flower Festival takes place every year at the end of April and admission is free. The event is mainly held in Piazza Walther and, in recent editions, extends along Viale della Stazione, creating a floral path through the historic center. It is the ideal opportunity to experience the spring atmosphere of the South Tyrolean capital, amidst tradition, nature, and culture.

Flower Festival — edition 2026

The 136th edition of the Flower Festival took place on April 30 and May 1, 2026, in Piazza Walther, Bolzano. For the first time, the event extended to Viale della Stazione, creating a floral path through the historic center featuring florist stands, concerts, acrobatic shows, and family activities.

136th Flower Festival - 2026

The 136th edition of the Flower Festival brought Bolzano to life on April 30 and May 1, 2026. Nurseries opened at 8:00 AM and stands from 9:00 AM, while the official inauguration was held at 11:00 AM in Piazza Walther, with speeches by city authorities, a singing performance by a kindergarten, and the traditional sound of ceramic bells. At noon, a parade of stilt-walking acrobats crossed the center with dance stops.

A novelty of the 2026 edition was the extension of the festival to Viale della Stazione, which hosted acrobatic performances, guided botanical tours, puppet theater, and shows for children. On May 1st, the day continued with live music from the morning, traditional dances, and acrobatic shows between Piazza Walther and Viale della Stazione. Among the side initiatives were the "Spring Shots" photo contest and the "In love with Bolzano Bozen Spring" pop-up photobooth. Admission was free.
