Over 90 years of hunting tradition and bird song
In Almenno San Salvatore, a municipality in the province of Bergamo about a dozen kilometers from the Orobic capital, the Birds Festival is a historic event: the first edition, then called "National Birds Festival", dates back to 1934. More than ninety editions later, it remains one of the most identity-defining appointments in the local calendar.
Almenno San Salvatore boasts a long and particular tradition linked to bird trapping, so much so that it has earned the historic recognition of "University of Bird Catchers". The festival celebrates this cultural heritage, now interpreted in terms of protection and knowledge of the world of birds.
The program takes place at Parco Sant'Uberto and features the characteristic bird song competitions, the hunting dog exhibition, falconry demonstrations, and performances by the "chioccolatori", skilled imitators of bird calls. The event is organized by Federcaccia (FIDC) of Bergamo.
For those visiting the area, Almenno San Salvatore also offers a remarkable historical-artistic heritage, from the churches of San Giorgio and San Nicola to the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Castello. The Birds Festival is an opportunity to discover a unique tradition in the panorama of the province of Bergamo.
The 2026 edition of the Birds Festival is expected on a Sunday in August, following the tradition of this historic event animating Parco Sant'Uberto in Almenno San Salvatore.
The program will feature the characteristic elements of the festival: bird song competitions, hunting dog exhibition, falconry demonstrations, and "chioccolatori" performances. The precise date will be announced by Federcaccia of Bergamo.
