A Sunday of sport, music, and sea at the Marina del Sole public beach
Beach Please! was born in 2025 from a simple idea: to give a piece of the coastline back to the city using sport as a catalyst. Every summer, the Marina del Sole public beach in Torre Annunziata (Metropolitan City of Naples, Campania) turns into an open-air arena for an entire Sunday, featuring five sand courts set up by the sea, nets, balls, music, and hundreds of spectators. It is neither a federal tournament nor a paid event: it is a neighborhood festival built around beach volleyball, held under the patronage of the Municipality of Torre Annunziata.
The tournament that gives the event its name is played in a mixed 3vs3 format. Each team can register up to four players, with three on the court at all times, including at least one woman: a rule established by the organizers to ensure the game is truly inclusive rather than just a showcase for elite athletes. The bracket accommodates a maximum of sixteen teams and includes a group stage followed by semi-finals and finals for third and first place, with at least three matches guaranteed for every team. There are no age limits: participants range from experienced players and former gym athletes to groups of friends and newcomers discovering the sport that very day.
Around the central court, the day unfolds without pause from morning until sunset. The typical program includes:
The result is an event that brings together very different audiences: families spending their Sunday at the beach, athletes arriving from across the Vesuvius area, and curious passersby drawn by the music.
The "Clean Volley" formulaโplaying only after cleaning the beachโis the hallmark of ASD BVTA. The association, led by president Pierluigi Paduano, works year-round on the Torre coastline with the belief that the public beach is a common good to be protected, not a place to be abandoned. Hence the emphasis on free admission for the public, inclusion, and participation: sport, the organizers say, must leave the gyms and stay close to the people. The technical sponsor of the event is Givova.
Torre Annunziata overlooks the Gulf of Naples at the foot of Mount Vesuvius, between Pompeii and Castellammare di Stabia. It is the city of the Oplontis excavations, home to the famous Villa of Poppea, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and maintains a long tradition of pasta making and maritime life. The Marina del Sole public beach, historically known by locals as "Mappatella," is one of the few stretches of public sand in the area: bringing a summer sports event here is, for the city, a way to reclaim its own sea. Visitors can easily combine a day at the beach with a visit to the excavations or a trip to nearby Pompeii, just a few minutes away.
Watching is always free: just head to the public beach and find a spot courtside. To play, you must register in advance via the online form released by the club on their channels, before the deadline set a few days prior to the event. A symbolic participation fee includes an official t-shirt and water for the entire day.
On Sunday, July 19, 2026, the Marina del Sole public beach in Torre Annunziata hosted the second edition of Beach Please!, organized by ASD BVTA - Beach Volley Torre Annunziata with the patronage of the Municipality. The day began at 9:00 AM with a collective beach cleanup and concluded at sunset with the finals, award ceremony, and a final toast.
The report released by the organizers highlights five courts set up on the sand, 45 players competing, 32 matches played, and seven hours of non-stop action, in addition to twelve athletes on the podium and twenty-four individual awards presented. Around the courts, ten hours of music, hundreds of bottles of water distributed for free, and a dedicated kids' area managed by the Cives Inter Pares association drew families and spectators throughout the day.
The technical sponsor for this edition was Givova. At the end of the event, the club reaffirmed its goal of making Beach Please! a permanent fixture of the Torre summer, focusing on accessible sport, social inclusion, and the enhancement of the public beach.
