Free classical and jazz concerts in the heart of the Norman city
Every June 21st, Aversa joins European musical capitals to celebrate the European Music Festival, a tradition born in France and spread across the continent, transforming cities into open-air stages. In the town of Aversa, in the Province of Caserta, the event is organized by the Pro Loco Aversa Normanna, which has long made music the core of its cultural programming. Now in its thirty-second edition, the event confirms Aversa as one of the most vibrant musical hubs in the Campania region.
The day is divided into two distinct parts, designed to showcase both the new generation and established artists. The morning is dedicated to young local talents, featuring virtuosic performances by musicians who, despite their youth, already tackle demanding pieces from the great piano repertoire. The afternoon and evening feature chamber ensembles and solo recitals ranging from classical music to jazz, in a dialogue between tradition and expressive freedom.
The bond between Aversa and music is no coincidence: the city is the birthplace of Domenico Cimarosa, one of the greatest composers of the 18th-century Neapolitan school. It is no surprise, then, that the festival program often pays homage to the Aversan master and the rich Neapolitan musical season, with works by composers such as Niccolò Jommelli. Aversa thus presents itself as a true "City of Music," capable of preserving a centuries-old heritage and revitalizing it through its young performers.
The concerts take place in the evocative Chiesa dell'Immacolata, one of the most beloved spaces for music in Aversa, which also hosts other concert series promoted by the Pro Loco throughout the year. The acoustics and the intimate atmosphere of this sacred building provide an ideal setting for classical and chamber repertoire, bringing the audience into direct and intimate contact with the performers.
One of the most significant aspects of the Aversa European Music Festival is its popular and free nature: all concerts have free admission, in line with the original spirit of the European celebration, which aims to bring music to the people and into everyday life. The event is organized by the Pro Loco Aversa Normanna in collaboration with the Orchestra da Camera di Caserta and the Anna Jervolino Association, under the patronage of the Municipality of Aversa.
Located in the Agro Aversano, just a few kilometers from both Naples and the provincial capital Caserta, Aversa is one of the most populous cities in Campania and preserves a historic center of Norman origin rich in churches and palaces. The European Music Festival represents a precious opportunity to discover this heritage, combining cultural promotion with the passion for music that has always characterized the Aversan community.
The 2026 edition of the Aversa European Music Festival took place on June 21st at the Chiesa dell'Immacolata, with free admission. The day, organized by the Pro Loco Aversa Normanna, paid tribute to the great masters and provided a stage for young local virtuosos, confirming the musical vocation of the Norman city.
The morning, titled "The Genius Touch," featured three very young talents, while the rest of the day saw chamber ensembles and an evening recital that combined the classical repertoire with jazz atmospheres, in the spirit of Aversa's musical tradition.
Aversa is well-connected to Naples and Caserta by train and the regional metro line; the Aversa train station is a short distance from the historic center. By car, it is easily accessible from the Asse Mediano and the A1 motorway. The concerts are held in the Chiesa dell'Immacolata, right in the city center.
All concerts are free of charge, subject to availability.
