About Kronplatz Bib Draw

On the eve of the Women's Giant Slalom World Cup race on the Erta slope at Plan de Corones, Brunico's Town Hall Square hosts the public bib draw. This free, highly anticipated event allows fans to see the world's top skiers receive their starting numbers in person. With live entertainment, music, and the warm atmosphere of the South Tyrolean crowd, the evening turns the historic center of this Puster Valley town into a grand celebration of winter sports.

The celebration that kicks off the World Cup in Brunico

Every January, on the eve of the Women's Giant Slalom World Cup held on the famous Erta slope at Plan de Corones (Kronplatz), the historic center of Brunico/Bruneck in the Puster Valley comes alive for the public bib draw (Startnummernauslosung). The event takes place in Town Hall Square (Rathausplatz) and is the moment when the world's best skiers receive their starting numbers for the following day's race in front of a live audience.

Admission is free, and the event attracts thousands of fans. It is a unique opportunity to see the stars of the 'White Circus' up close in an informal and festive setting, far removed from the tension of the race course.

The evening program

The ceremony unfolds over a few intense hours of entertainment:

  • Opening entertainment by the Kronplatz Ski Team, warming up the crowd;
  • Official inauguration with the Mayor of Brunico, the President of the Bruneck Kronplatz Tourismus association, and the President of the World Cup Organizing Committee;
  • Bib draw in collaboration with the Sci Club Bruneck, the heart of the evening;
  • Live concert to close the festivities in the square.

The race on the Erta slope at Plan de Corones

The bib draw is the prelude to the Audi FIS Women's Giant Slalom World Cup, which takes place the following day on the Erta slope above San Vigilio di Marebbe, in the Plan de Corones ski area. It is one of the most demanding and spectacular tracks on the international circuit, a permanent fixture on the FIS calendar since 2017 following years of European Cup races. The Erta's roll of honor includes champions such as Mikaela Shiffrin, Federica Brignone, Lara Gut, and Sara Hector.

Brunico and the Puster Valley

Located in the municipality of Brunico/Bruneck, in the Autonomous Province of Bolzano (Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol), the event blends top-tier sports with the vibrancy of a bilingual historic center nestled in the Dolomites. During the World Cup days, this Puster Valley town becomes a hub for fans, families, and winter tourists, offering a setting that weaves together competition, tradition, and mountain hospitality.
