The world's oldest review dedicated to the dialogue between cinema and visual arts
The Asolo Art Film Festival is the oldest international review in the world dedicated to the relationship between cinema and visual arts. It takes place in Asolo, a splendid medieval village in the province of Treviso and one of the most beautiful in Italy, based at the Teatro Duse with screenings spread throughout the historic center. Born as an offshoot of the Venice Biennale, the festival boasts a prestigious history and has seen authors such as Andrej Tarkovskij and Alain Resnais among its protagonists.
The program is divided into several competitive sections that explore the many ways in which cinema tells the story of art and becomes an expressive form itself: Films on Art, Art Films, Video Art, Anthropica, Animation, and First Expressions, dedicated to debut works. The selection gathers hundreds of works from dozens of countries, with particular attention to emerging cinematographies โ Iran, Taiwan, Turkey, China, Brazil โ and a significant Italian presence.
Under the artistic direction of director Nello Correale, the Asolo Art Film Festival offers not only screenings but also meetings with authors, masterclasses, and discussion forums. Internationally recognized, the festival maintains a research and quality focus, far from commercial cinema, and makes Asolo a capital of art cinema for a few days. Admission to screenings is free until seats are filled.
The 42nd edition of the Asolo Art Film Festival takes place from June 12 to 14, 2026, at the Teatro Duse and in the historic center of Asolo. This year's theme is IMAGO: an explicit invitation to slow down our gaze in an era dominated by the speed of social media, to restore value to images and rediscover the profound and therapeutic power of imagination. Among the approximately 500 selected works from over 60 countries, emerging cinematographies from Iran, Taiwan, Turkey, China, and Brazil stand out, alongside a significant Italian presence and the integration of artificial intelligence-generated images with live-action footage. The artistic direction is by director Nello Correale.
Program based on information released by the organization for the 42nd edition (detailed schedule available on the official website asoloartfilmfestival.com):
The 2026 jury is chaired by Federico Greco (director and film critic), accompanied by screenwriter Roland Sejko (David di Donatello 2013 for best documentary) and composer Giovanni Spinelli. The detailed selection and schedule are published on the official website.
