A special day at the castle in the 'village of mystery', in the heart of the Cervo Valley
The Ascent to the Tower of the Castle of Rosazza is one of the most anticipated and unique events in the calendar of Rosazza, a tiny municipality in the Cervo Valley in the province of Biella, in the heart of Piedmont. The event celebrates the anniversary of the village being awarded the prestigious Borghi più belli d'Italia flag and offers a rare and precious opportunity: to visit the castle tower, a residence that is usually privately owned and not open to the public.
The Castle of Rosazza was built between 1883 and 1899 by Senator Federico Rosazza Pistolet, based on designs by architect Giuseppe Maffei, as a summer residence rich in symbolic references. Built with local syenite, the building is dominated by a tower with herringbone masonry, crowned by Guelph battlements. An internal staircase of about one hundred steps leads to the top, which offers an unforgettable view of the village and the entire Cervo Valley. It is no coincidence that Rosazza is nicknamed the 'village of mystery' due to the numerous esoteric and symbolic references scattered throughout its architecture.
The day is more than just a visit: visitors are welcomed by the Viaggio nell'Ottocento (Journey into the 19th Century) Historical Group, with performers in philologically accurate period costumes—noblewomen in crinoline, gentlemen in top hats and tailcoats—who bring the gardens and rooms of the castle to life, recreating the atmosphere of the 19th century. The climb up the tower is accompanied by a celebratory toast under the porticoes and a tasting of the food and wine excellence of the Biella area.
The initiative, promoted by the Municipality of Rosazza and the Pro Loco of Rosazza, has seen a resounding sell-out in recent years, with bookings filling up in just a few hours. It is an experience designed for those who want to discover one of the most fascinating villages in the Biella area, blending history, mountain landscapes, and local traditions. Participation is by reservation only and places are limited: it is advisable to enquire well in advance with the Pro Loco.
