Hike to the Eremo dell'Annunziata and folk music on the Gran Sasso
This edition has not been confirmed by the organiser to date. We recommend checking before going.
The Appennino Festival stops in the municipality of Fano Adriano, a small mountain village nestled on the slopes of the Gran Sasso, in the province of Teramo, in the heart of the Gran Sasso and Monti della Laga National Park. It is one of the Abruzzo stages of a large touring festival that travels every year through the villages of the central Apennines across four regions: Abruzzo, Lazio, Marche, and Umbria.
The format is the one that made the festival famous: a guided hike to discover the area, followed by a live concert. In Fano Adriano, the walk leads to the Eremo dell'Annunziata, a place of peace and faith immersed in nature, reachable via a loop trail winding through woods and mountain views. Each stage creates a temporary community of hikers, residents, and visitors, united by the desire to rediscover the Apennine mountains.
Fano Adriano stands at over 700 meters above sea level, in a position overlooking the upper Vomano valley and the Gran Sasso massifs. It is a village with ancient origins, linked to shepherding and the traditions of the Teramo mountains. The festival stage is designed to showcase this often-overlooked heritage, highlighting the trails, spiritual sites, and local community traditions.
The festival was born with a precise vocation: to revitalize the inland areas of the central Apennines, many of which were scarred by the 2016-2017 earthquake, through experiential tourism, culture, and solidarity. Walking together and gathering in the evening around music thus becomes a gesture of rebirth for these territories.
The Fano Adriano day combines a walk along the trails of the Gran Sasso, up to the Eremo dell'Annunziata, with an evening folk music concert. The goal is to offer a complete experience, where nature hiking and the discovery of a place of faith intertwine with the rediscovery of the area's cultural roots, celebrated by the repertoire of the Apennine and Mediterranean tradition.
The Fano Adriano stage is part of a calendar covering most of the year, with dozens of events distributed across numerous municipalities in the central Apennines. Each stage is organized in collaboration with local administrations, BIM Consortia, local associations, and volunteers, the true protagonists of an event that makes its participatory, inclusive, and free nature its distinctive trait.
Participating in the Fano Adriano stage of the Appennino Festival means experiencing a day dedicated to nature, spirituality, culture, and conviviality in one of the most authentic corners of the Teramo mountains.
As of the publication date, the dates for the 2026 edition of the Appennino Festival in Fano Adriano have not yet been announced. The official calendar of the touring festival is updated year by year and does not automatically confirm the presence of every village involved in previous editions.
Those wishing to participate are invited to consult the official festival website and the channels of the Municipality of Fano Adriano to check for any scheduled stage in the village. If confirmed, the day would follow the usual format: a guided hike on the Gran Sasso, the discovery of a local site like the Eremo dell'Annunziata, and an evening folk music concert, always free to attend with mandatory booking.
Fano Adriano can be reached by car from Teramo by going up the Vomano valley along the road that climbs towards Pietracamela and the northern slopes of the Gran Sasso. The reference train station is Teramo, from where you should continue by car.
As this is a stage involving a mountain hike, we recommend trekking shoes, layered clothing, at least a liter of water, a hat, and a rain jacket. Participation is free, but booking is mandatory on the official festival website. It is advisable to check times, meeting points, and participation methods on the official website or at the Fano Adriano Town Hall.
