Theatre returns under the walls
Every summer, between June and July, Cittadella, in the province of Padua, becomes an open-air stage with the Antiche Mura Teatro Festival. The event, curated by the company Teatro Bresci, offers a series of evening performances in the Campo della Marta Open-Air Theatre, a scenic space surrounded by greenery within the city's medieval walls.
Eight evenings between June and July
The program consists of eight theatre performances spread over several weeks, with events ranging from drama to comedy. The evenings take place on Mondays, with the curtain generally rising at 9:30 PM, preceded by a pre-show moment. In case of bad weather, performances are moved to Villa Rina.
"Luoghi Comuni – Il Veneto in scena"
The festival also includes the showcase "Luoghi Comuni – Il Veneto in scena", dedicated to promoting Venetian theatre and culture. It's an opportunity to rediscover the region's language, stories, and traditions through the medium of theatre, in dialogue with the local community and visitors.

One of the distinctive features of the Antiche Mura Teatro Festival is the free admission by donation, making culture accessible to everyone. The setting of Cittadella's walled town—founded in 1220 and famous for its elliptical walls with 32 towers—adds unique value to each evening, transforming the experience of watching a performance into an intertwining of theatre, history, and urban landscape.

The Antiche Mura Teatro Festival 2026 presents eight open-air theatre performances at the Campo della Marta Theatre in Cittadella, on the evenings of June 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29, and July 6, 13, and 14. Performances generally start at 9:30 PM, with a pre-show from 8:30 PM; in case of bad weather, the venue moves to Villa Rina.
Artistic direction is by Teatro Bresci. The festival also includes the showcase "Luoghi Comuni – Il Veneto in scena", dedicated to Venetian theatre and culture. Admission is by donation.

How to get here
The Campo della Marta Theatre is located in the historic centre of Cittadella (PD). By car from the A4 (Grisignano di Zocco exit) or A31; by train, Cittadella station is on the Padua-Bassano del Grappa line.
Admission and times
Performances generally on Monday evenings: pre-show from 8:30 PM, start at 9:30 PM. Admission by donation. In case of rain, performances are held at Villa Rina.
