A festival linked to the wayside shrine
The Antica Sagra del Capitello takes place in Sabbadina, a locality in Boara Pisani, a municipality in the Padua region bordering the Polesine area along the Adige river. The festival originates from the popular devotion to the ancient capitello (wayside shrine), one of the many small sacred edicules that dot the Venetian countryside and around which the life of rural communities has gathered over the centuries.
Two weekends of festivities at the sports field
The festival is held at the Sabbadina sports field, at Via Vallazza 28, spread over two weekends between late May and early June. The programme alternates gastronomic evenings and entertainment: dinners organised by the Pro Loco, a screening dedicated to the "history and tradition of the ancient wayside shrine", and dancing evenings with concerts.
Flavours of the lower Padua region
On the table, the stars are wild boar, asparagus, and typical local dishes, accompanied by evenings with DJ sets, ballroom dancing, and tributes to '70s and '80s rock. Organised by the Associazione Culturale Athesis APS together with the Pro Loco and under the patronage of the Municipality of Boara Pisani, the festival is one of the most cherished spring events in the lower Padua region.

The 2026 edition of the Antica Sagra del Capitello will take place at the Sabbadina sports field (Via Vallazza 28) in Boara Pisani over two weekends, from May 22 to June 2. Organised by the Associazione Culturale Athesis APS and the Pro Loco, under the patronage of the Municipality. The programme includes dinners organised by the Pro Loco, the screening "History and tradition of the ancient wayside shrine", and musical evenings.

The 2026 festival will be held on May 22-23-24, May 29-30-31, and June 1-2 at the Sabbadina sports field. The typical structure includes:
- Dinner and dancing organised by the Pro Loco
- Menu with wild boar, asparagus, and typical dishes from the lower Padua region
- Evenings with DJ sets, ballroom dancing, and tributes to '70s-'80s rock
- Screening "History and tradition of the ancient wayside shrine" by Athesis

How to get there
Boara Pisani is located along the SS16 south of Padua, near Rovigo. The hamlet of Sabbadina is reachable by car; take the Boara/Rovigo exit from the A13 motorway.
