The Middle Ages return to Arquà Polesine

The Palio dei Ochi is one of the most beloved historical re-enactments in the province of Rovigo. For four days, around the evocative castle of Arquà Polesine, the town center transforms into a medieval village populated by soldiers, flag-wavers, musicians, falconers, jugglers, and period encampments. An organizational machine that involves over fifty participants and the entire community.

The four competing districts

The heart of the event is the competition between the four districts of Arquà – Redinari, Lanaroi, Zestari, and Scoari – who vie for the Palio through games and skill tests. The most anticipated event is the Corsa dei Ochi, the goose race that decrees the winning district of the year. There are also castle assaults, historical parades, and fire shows.

Taverns, banquets, and fireworks

Throughout the Palio, historic gastronomic areas remain active, such as the Taverna delle Barchesse and the Locanda de lo Porco, as well as the exclusive Banchetto del Podestà, a medieval dinner with live entertainment and costumed service. The grand finale is entrusted to a pyromusical show that lights up the sky above the castle.

A celebration that continues

At the end of the Palio, the festivities continue with Arquà in Festa, a week of music, shows, sports, and culture that keeps the festive atmosphere alive in the town. Together, they represent the highlight of the year for the community of Arquà Polesine.
