Edition 2025 — Anise Donut Festival

In 2025, the Anise Donut Festival returned to Poggio Nativo in mid-August as part of the Assumption Patronal Feast celebrations. The Sabina village renewed the ritual of the anise donut, hand-kneaded and baked in the ancient wood-fired oven, distributed to visitors among the medieval alleys of the historic center. The event, which has surpassed fifty editions, was accompanied by traditional costume re-enactments and convivial open-air evenings.

The 2025 edition of the Anise Donut Festival confirmed the historical calendar of the event: mid-August, coinciding with the Assumption Patronal Feast of Poggio Nativo, a municipality in the province of Rieti overlooking the Farfa Valley.

As every year, the heart of the festival was the anise donut, prepared according to the traditional method — hand-kneaded, long rising, baking in the village's ancient wood-fired oven — and distributed through the streets of the historic center. Alongside the festival, the Assumption procession on August 15th and the traditional costume re-enactments depicting Sabina peasant life took place.

During the same period, the village also hosted the Gnocchi al Castrato Festival and the Fregnacce Festival, completing a week entirely dedicated to the popular cuisine of the Lazio Region.
