Nature, craftsmanship, and wellness at the Città dell'Altra Economia
Anima Verde Festival is one of the most recognizable events on the Roman calendar dedicated to nature, craftsmanship, and well-being. It takes place at the Città dell'Altra Economia, on Largo Dino Frisullo, within the former Mattatoio of Testaccio, one of the most iconic locations in Rome and the Lazio region. The historic iron and brick pavilions, restored and returned to the city, provide the perfect backdrop for an event focused on sustainable economy, conscious consumption, and connections between small-scale producers.
The festival brings together artisans and creatives of all kinds, wellness practitioners, green and sustainable producers, and vintage and second-hand goods. It is a market, but also much more: a space where shopping becomes an opportunity to meet the people who handcraft their creations. The association behind the event aims to foster the growth of craftsmanship and small producers, building a collaborative network among all industry operators.
The 'holistic' heart of the event is the indoor seminar room, with a schedule that is updated for every edition. Past sessions have included Nature Therapy, Vedic numerology, olfactory journeys, inner power circles, mantra circles with meditative music, tea and herbal tea tastings, and channeling sessions. Many practices require booking due to limited space, and it is recommended to bring a mat for floor-based activities.
One of the most popular sections is the 'Mandala Day Sensi' area, a path designed to stimulate all five senses through tastings, acoustic and visual experiences, and creative workshops. A dedicated artistic area is reserved for children, featuring painting, drawing, and crafting: a simple way to stimulate their imagination while families browse the stalls.
Anima Verde was born and continues to grow thanks to the collaboration between local entities: the Città dell'Altra Economia, Roma Open Lab Aps, Caffè Boario, and various Roman cultural associations. The organization also hosts the Anima Verde Market throughout the year, a Sunday event with the same philosophy, allowing the public to reconnect with exhibitors across the seasons.
It is a free, relaxed event suitable for all ages, perfect for a different kind of Sunday in Rome. Visitors coming from out of town can combine their trip with a visit to the historic Testaccio market, the Monte dei Cocci, and the Pyramid of Cestius, all just a few minutes' walk away. The atmosphere is that of a small community: you can chat with artisans, try a relaxation practice, and take home something handmade.
