The winter festival of the Locara hamlet, featuring carnival, karaoke, and Latin music
While most Venetian festivals await summer, the hamlet of Locara, in San Bonifacio (province of Verona), brings the celebration to the heart of winter. The Ancient Festival of San Valentino, organized by the Locara Festivities Committee with the patronage of the Municipality and the collaboration of the parish of San Giovanni Battista, enlivens Piazza San Giovanni Battista in mid-February with five evenings in a covered and heated structure — a guarantee of being able to dance and dine sheltered from the cold.
The festival has a decidedly musical and festive soul: it ranges from Latin-Caribbean evenings with dance schools to DJ sets, from live music to the famous Lokaraoke, the karaoke competition now in its 24th edition and a true institution of the hamlet. The heart of the weekend is the parade of floats for the 'Carnevaloco', which brings the joy of carnival to Locara, followed on Monday by the costume party for children.
There are also food stalls, a charity raffle, and a funfair, while the traditional dinner concludes the festivities in a convivial atmosphere. The Ancient Festival of San Valentino is thus an event that unites different generations and showcases the strong community spirit of the Locara hamlet.
