The thousand-year-old fair of Morciano di Romagna between agriculture, tradition, and entertainment
The Ancient Fair of Saint Gregory is the major event that fills the streets of Morciano di Romagna, in the province of Rimini, in the heart of the Valconca, every March. Its origins date back to the early 11th century: the fair was born and consolidated around the Abbey of San Gregorio, founded by San Pier Damiani near Morciano in 1060, as a moment of exchange and trade between merchants and farmers from all over the territory. A document by Bennone from 1014 even attests to its existence at the beginning of the millennium, making it one of the oldest and longest-running events in Romagna.
The rural vocation of the fair has remained intact. At the Foro Boario in via Stadio, interprovincial exhibitions are held annually, which are the true engine of the event: the Sheep Exhibition, the Interprovincial Exhibition of Romagnola Breed Cattle, and the historic Horse Exhibition and Market, with equestrian demonstrations and awards. Alongside the animal exhibitions, the fair also hosts Valconca Tractor, the impressive display of agricultural machinery that chronicles the evolution of farm work, from vintage tractors to the most modern machines.
In addition to its farming soul, the Fair of Saint Gregory has always been a village festival. Every evening, the Auditorium Teatro Pina Renzi opens its doors to performances ranging from dialect theatre of Romagna to author music, while the San Gregorio Arena in via Bucci, managed by the Pro Loco of Morciano di Romagna, offers street food, DJ sets, and afternoon and evening concerts for all nine days. In the exhibition hall in via XXV Luglio, 'Paesi d'Amare' comes to life, a showcase of the territory's food and wine excellences animated by local Pro Loco associations. For the little ones, there is also the large Luna Park, which operates for the entire duration of the event.
The Fair of Saint Gregory is much more than a local festival: it is an identity event that attracts visitors from all over Romagna and the Riviera, capable of uniting the rural memory of the Municipality of Morciano di Romagna with the energy of a great contemporary popular festival.
The 2026 edition confirmed the formula that made the Fair of Saint Gregory famous: nine days, from March 7 to 15, which combined the agricultural tradition of the Valconca with entertainment and gastronomy. Thursday, March 12, was the highlight for the livestock sector, with awards for the cattle and sheep exhibitions, while the concluding Sunday hosted Valconca Tractor and equestrian demonstrations.
From March 7 to 15, 2026, for nine days. Exhibition areas and the market are generally open from 9 AM to 7-8 PM.
