The Carnival That Lasts Longer

The Ambrosian Carnival of Porlezza has a peculiarity that makes it special: it follows the calendar of the Ambrosian rite, that of the diocese of Milan. This means that in Porlezza, a town on Lake Lugano in the province of Como, carnival is celebrated when Lent has already begun in the rest of Italy, with the famous Ambrosian Fat Saturday falling a few days after the Roman rite's Fat Tuesday.

Floats, Masks, and Bands

The festival brings floats, masks, and musical bands to the streets of the historic center, in a colorful parade that involves the entire community.
