Two weeks of sustainability in Grottammare, while waiting for the Giro-E and the Giro d'Italia
The AltroMare Festival - Waiting for the Giro-E is the major event that, in May, transforms Grottammare (province of Ascoli Piceno, in the Marche region) into a city in pink. For two weeks, the town center becomes the stage for a packed calendar of events entirely focused on sustainability and the relaunch of the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The common thread is the bicycle, a symbol of gentler, more environmentally friendly mobility, and the anticipation of the cycling caravan's passage through the Piceno territory.
Promoted by the Municipality of Grottammare with the involvement of about forty local associations, the festival intertwines sport, culture, education, and civic engagement. Events range from mountain bike and running rallies to days dedicated to inclusion and road safety for children, including the presentation of the Municipality's sustainability report, the inauguration of new cycle paths, and historical insights into the connection between Grottammare and major cycling events. The festival culminates with the arrival of the Giro-E Enel and the passage of the Giro d'Italia, making the Riviera delle Palme one of Italy's cycling capitals.
Throughout the festival, Grottammare is adorned with widespread initiatives: pink bicycles painted and decorated by members of the Sisto V Social Center and displayed at various points in the city, and the "Pink Shop Windows" contest, which rewards the most beautiful displays by shops and businesses. This involvement makes the AltroMare Festival not just a sporting event, but a true community celebration uniting associations, schools, merchants, and citizens around the values of environmental sustainability and energy transition.
The first edition of the AltroMare Festival - Waiting for the Giro-E animated Grottammare from May 2 to 16, 2026, with a program entirely dedicated to sustainability and the goals of the 2030 Agenda. The event, promoted by the Municipality with about forty local associations, prepared the city for the arrival of the Giro-E Enel caravan and the passage of the Giro d'Italia.
Among the widespread initiatives were the pink bicycles decorated by the Sisto V Social Center and the "Pink Shop Windows" contest for local businesses. In this inaugural edition, the "AltroMare - Riding Towards Change" Award was presented.
Events take place in the center of Grottammare (AP), with key moments concentrated in Via Matteotti and Piazza San Pio V, where the Green Fun Village is set up, and in the city squares (Piazza Kursaal, Piazza Fazzini).
Grottammare is located on the Adriatic coast of the Marche region, along the SS16 Adriatica. Grottammare train station is on the Bologna-Lecce Adriatic line. By car, take the Grottammare exit from the A14 motorway.
Festival events are free to attend.
