The popular carnival of Altidona with allegorical floats, masked groups, and the key of King Carnival
The Altidona Carnival is one of the most cherished events in Altidona, a municipality in the Province of Fermo overlooking the Adriatic coast of the Marche region. Promoted by Pro Loco Altidona APS (active in the area since 1973), it is a genuinely popular carnival, born from the desire to come together and celebrate: no grand spectacular productions, but handmade floats, homemade costumes, and groups representing the neighborhoods, districts, and associations of the town.
The heart of the festival is the parade of masked groups, which each year choose a theme and interpret it with choreography, dances, and setups. The groups compete for the wooden key of the Altidona King Carnival, the symbolic prize awarded by the Pro Loco to the most convincing masked group. In past editions, historical groups such as the Historic Center, the Artists' Quarter, the Marina Quarter, and many other formations born among friends and families have animated the competition.
A characteristic of the Altidona Carnival is that it takes place in two distinct locations within the municipal territory, thus involving the entire community:
With allegorical floats, music, confetti, and streamers, the Altidona Carnival is above all a festival designed for families and children, with masks, typical sweets of the season, and the carefree atmosphere typical of Italian carnival. It is an opportunity to discover the authenticity of a small Marche village far from the major tourist circuits, where the carnival tradition remains an eagerly awaited event for the entire community.
In 2026, the Altidona Carnival reaches its eleventh edition, confirming an event now rooted in the life of the town. The organization is managed, as usual, by Pro Loco Altidona APS, which handles the registration of masked groups, setups, and the award ceremony.
The festival unfolds in the two traditional locations of the Municipality: the coastal parade in Marina di Altidona (from Piazza Santa Cecilia to Piazza degli Artisti) and the one in the historic center (from the bocce court area to Piazza Cesare Battisti). For 2026 as well, the groups will compete for the key of King Carnival.
The detailed program for the 2026 edition (precise dates of the parades, times, and participating groups) will be communicated by Pro Loco Altidona through its official website and social media channels in the weeks leading up to the Carnival.
Based on previous editions, the event includes two afternoons of parades (one in Marina di Altidona and one in the historic center), starting in the early afternoon, themed masked groups, allegorical floats, and the final awarding of the Altidona King Carnival key.
The parades take place in Altidona (FM), in the Marche region: in Marina di Altidona, between Piazza Santa Cecilia and Piazza degli Artisti, and in the historic center, from the bocce court area to Piazza Cesare Battisti.
By car: A14 motorway exit at Pedaso, a few kilometers from Altidona. By train: the nearest station is Pedaso, on the Bologna-Lecce Adriatic line. By plane: Ancona-Falconara Airport is about an hour's drive away.
Participation in the parades is free and outdoors.
