Almabtrieb in Meransen

The 2025 edition

On Saturday, September 27, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM, Meransen celebrated its autumn cattle drive along Aignerstraße. The highlight was the arrival in the village, around 12:30 PM, of the procession with about one thousand head of livestock festively adorned, having descended from the pastures at the end of the grazing season.

Accompanying the herds were Schuhplattler groups, costume associations, and the Meransen Schützen band, with musicians from across the region. The traditional Bauernfest offered specialties from local farmers — Tirtlan and Krapfen — along with a market featuring speck, South Tyrolean apples, honey, schnapps, and alpine cheeses. The event, organized by the Gitschberg Jochtal Tourist Association in the municipality of Rio di Pusteria (Bolzano), attracted numerous visitors to the plateau.

• 10:00 AM — Opening of the festival along Aignerstraße, farmers' market, and food stands
• ~12:30 PM — Arrival of the decorated cow procession (Almabtrieb) from the pastures
• Afternoon — Musical entertainment with Schuhplattler, costume groups, and the Schützen band
• Until 7:00 PM — Continuation of the Bauernfest with farmers' specialties (Tirtlan, Krapfen)
