Jazz evenings at sunset on the Punta Fortino terrace, between the old town of Agropoli and the Cilento sea.
The Agropoli Jazz Festival is an event that brings jazz music every summer to one of the most evocative terraces in Cilento: Punta Fortino, the promontory that borders the historic center of Agropoli, in the province of Salerno. Just a short walk from the Angioino-Aragonese Castle and the old town, the stage overlooks the Tyrrhenian Sea: concerts begin in the late afternoon and accompany the audience until sunset, when the light on the water becomes an integral part of the show.
This is not a festival for thousands of spectators, and it doesn't aim to be. It is an intimate gathering, built on a few select appointments, where the connection between musicians and listeners remains close and the silence between two tracks is filled by the sound of the sea. Those looking for an intimate, high-quality event, away from the crowds of large summer stages, will find exactly what they need here.
The common thread declared by the organizers is the union of art, territory, and the sea. Jazz, a music that thrives on mutual listening and improvisation, is placed in a context that amplifies its character: a terrace overlooking the gulf, the salty evening air, and the silhouette of the Cilento coast stretching south. The evenings are not designed as simple concerts, but as social moments: in the 2025 edition, each event was accompanied by a sunset aperitif service, a formula that has made the festival a summer ritual for locals and vacationers alike.
The programming looks to the national jazz scene and, in particular, to the rich talent pool of the Campania region: trios and quartets, duo projects, and forays into blues, swing, and Mediterranean and flamenco sounds. It is a choice that allows for a different color each evening, without ever straying from the grammar of jazz.
In 2026, the Agropoli Jazz Festival is curated by the Turban Association in collaboration with La Saletta and offers four evenings on the Punta Fortino terrace: July 9 and 23, and August 6 and 20, always starting at 6:30 PM. It is a time that places the festival in the transition between late afternoon and evening, the moment when the terrace is at its best.
Among the names announced by the local press, the evening of August 20 with Nico Gori and Igor Di Martino is the most anticipated: Gori is one of the most recognized clarinetists and saxophonists in Italian jazz, with a career that weaves together research projects and swing ensembles.
The jazz festival is one of the highlights of Vivi Agropoli, the tourism and cultural promotion project of the Municipality of Agropoli, which has put together a particularly rich summer calendar for 2026. The largest shows are concentrated at the Arena del Mare, at the port, and at the Akropolis Music Arena in Piazza Prof. Paolo Serra, featuring stars like Arisa, Dardust, Fabrizio Moro, Anna Oxa, Vincenzo Salemme, Massimo Lopez, Francesco Paolantoni, and Gianmarco Tognazzi. Around these events moves a network of initiatives entrusted to local associations, and the Agropoli Jazz Festival fits right into this network, alongside events hosted in the Moat of the Angioino-Aragonese Castle and in Piazza Madonna di Costantinopoli.
For visitors, this is a concrete advantage: in the same week, one can go from a major national pop concert to an open-air, club-style jazz evening with a sea view.
Punta Fortino is the most photographed spot in Agropoli. The small lighthouse, built in 1923 and located about forty meters above sea level, marks the promontory; the terrace in front of it is known as 'the terrace of Cilento' and dominates the Gulf of Salerno. It can be reached on foot by walking up through the historic center, via the staircase and the gateway to the medieval village: a short but uphill walk, well worth taking slowly before the concert.
With its approximately twenty thousand inhabitants, Agropoli is the main gateway to the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site, and one of the most popular tourist destinations in Campania. The perched old town, the castle, the port, and the beaches coexist with a tourist vocation that spans the entire year. From here, you can quickly reach the temples of Paestum, the beaches of Santa Maria di Castellabate, and the hilltop villages of the interior: those planning a trip around a festival evening will have plenty of material for a multi-day stay.
In 2026, the Agropoli Jazz Festival confirms its intimate format and chooses four appointments spread over two months: July 9 and 23, and August 6 and 20. The venue is always the Punta Fortino terrace, overlooking the gulf, in the historic center of Agropoli (province of Salerno); the start time is set for all dates at 6:30 PM, so that the second part of the concerts coincides with the sunset.
Artistic curation is by the Turban Association, in collaboration with La Saletta. The festival is part of the Vivi Agropoli 2026 program, the Municipality's tourism and cultural promotion project which this year has brought together big names in music and entertainment at the Arena del Mare and the Akropolis Music Arena, alongside a network of initiatives entrusted to local associations.
Of particular note is the final evening, August 20, with Nico Gori and Igor Di Martino: a meeting between two instrumentalists of different schools that brings national-level jazz to Punta Fortino.
All events are held on the Punta Fortino terrace, in Agropoli, starting at 6:30 PM.
The calendar of the four dates is the one released by the Municipality of Agropoli in the presentation of Vivi Agropoli 2026; the pairings between dates and ensembles are those reported by the local press. Some publications have released variations of the program: for the final confirmation of each evening, it is advisable to check the organizers' announcements in the days prior.
By car: take the Battipaglia exit from the A2 del Mediterraneo motorway, then the SS18 south towards Agropoli. By train: the Agropoli-Castellabate station, on the Salerno-Reggio Calabria line, is about 2 km from the center and is connected by buses and taxis. Nearest airport: Salerno-Costa d'Amalfi (about 40 km), alternatively Naples-Capodichino (about 110 km).
The concerts are held on the Punta Fortino terrace, in the historic center of Agropoli, near the lighthouse promontory. Access is pedestrian-only: it is best to leave your car in the seafront parking lots or in the port area and walk up towards the old town. Evenings start at 6:30 PM.
The 2025 edition had free admission, with a paid sunset aperitif service. For 2026, access conditions have not been specified in public announcements: it is advisable to check with the organizers or on the Municipality of Agropoli's channels before each event.
Agropoli has a wide range of hotels, B&Bs, and vacation homes, concentrated between the San Marco seafront, the port area, and the hillside hamlets. In high season, between July and August, booking in advance is practically essential.
