The tradition of Easter Monday at the Agina country church in Misano Adriatico
The Festa dell'Agina is one of the most cherished events in the spring calendar of Misano Adriatico, a municipality in the province of Rimini, in Emilia-Romagna. It takes place every year on Easter Monday (Pasquetta, the Monday of the Angel) around the small country church of Agina, a place that has gathered the devotion and conviviality of the local community for centuries.
The small church of Agina is one of the oldest and most elegant monuments in the Misano area. Simple and serene, with exposed brickwork and a characteristic sail-shaped bell tower, according to tradition it was rebuilt at the end of the 18th century, after the 1786 earthquake, thanks to the Knights of Malta. For centuries, it housed a precious 14th-century wooden Christ of the Rimini school, now preserved and restored in the parish church of Misano Mare.
The festival combines religious, popular, and gastronomic elements, in true Romagna spirit:
After a period of interruption, the Festa dell'Agina was revived in recent years thanks to the efforts of the Comitato dell'Agina (Agina Committee) and the parish of the Immaculate Conception of Misano Mare, with the support of local citizens and clergy. The event is part of the broader spring program in Misano Adriatico, which in the same weeks features the Easter market and the historic Festa della Segavecchia.
The Festa dell'Agina is not a grand spectacular event, but a genuine village festival: an opportunity to gather outdoors in the countryside, rediscover the flavors of Romagna cuisine, and experience the conviviality of Easter Monday in an authentic corner of the Rimini Riviera, far from the crowds of the seafront.
The Festa dell'Agina 2026 was held on Monday, April 6, 2026, on the occasion of Easter Monday, at the Agina country church in Misano Adriatico, province of Rimini.
As per tradition, the religious celebrations in the Agina church were followed by the picnic on the threshing floor, with the simple flavors of Romagna cuisine, and an afternoon of music and games for adults and children. The festival opened the rich spring program of Misano Adriatico, which in the following weeks also featured the historical motorcycle re-enactment and the historic Festa della Segavecchia.
