The millennial half marathon between the Abbey of Pomposa and Codigoro, in the heart of the Po Delta
The Abbazia di Pomposa Half Marathon debuts in 2026 with its first edition, enriching the running calendar of the province of Ferrara. Organized by UISP Ferrara and the Gruppo Giro delle Mura, with the patronage of the Municipality of Codigoro and the Pro Loco of Codigoro, the race offers the classic half marathon distance โ 21.097 km โ in a setting that few other Italian events can offer.
The symbolic heart of the event is the Abbey of Pomposa, a Benedictine monastic complex of millennial origin, famous for its very tall bell tower and for having been one of the most important cultural centers of the European Middle Ages. Right here, at the foot of the abbey in the Municipality of Codigoro (Province of Ferrara), the start and finish of the race are located.
The route connects Pomposa and Codigoro along 21.097 km that cross some of the most characteristic places of the Po Delta: the Bosco Spada, the reclaimed valleys, the historic canals, and the ancient commercial routes like the Via del Sale (Salt Road). It is a flat and evocative itinerary, where the race intertwines with the memory of a territory shaped by water and large land reclamation works.
In addition to the competitive half marathon, the event offers a 6 km non-competitive walk, designed for those who wish to experience the atmosphere of the day without the competitive effort. For its first edition, the race has a limited entry, with a maximum of one thousand participants, to ensure an exclusive and safe running experience.
The event has chosen two exceptional testimonials: pianist and marathon runner Maurizio Baglini, ambassador of the event, and writer Marcello Simoni, special guest. A choice that ideally links sport, culture, and tradition, values that run through the entire identity of the race.
More than just a running race, the Abbazia di Pomposa Half Marathon is an invitation to discover the Po Delta and its history through running. For territory enthusiasts, the special Poker 2026 formula is also available, which with a single registration allows participation in four running events in Ferrara: the Corrida degli Scariolanti, the Giro delle Mura, the Zir dil Tre Frazion, and this very half marathon.
