Three days of memory, brass bands, and Alpine tradition in the heart of the Vercelli area
From March 20 to 22, 2026, the Municipality of Trino, in the Province of Vercelli, hosted three emotional days to celebrate the 95th anniversary of the founding of its Alpini Group, part of the ANA Vercelli Section. The group was established on December 14, 1930, with just twenty-five members and remains a cornerstone of the town's social and charitable life today.
The anniversary held special significance as it coincided with the 85th anniversary of the death of Maestro Eugenio Palazzi (who passed away on April 10, 1940). A native of Trino, he composed the music for 'Il 33', also known as 'Valore Alpino', the official anthem of the Alpini. The lyrics were written by lawyer Camillo Fabiano. For the people of Trino, Palazzi has always been the 'father of the 33', and the bond between the city and the famous anthem is a source of deep pride, so much so that the Group is named after Major Leandro Gellona, who went missing during the Russian Campaign.
The program brought together numerous delegations from Piedmont, Liguria, the Aosta Valley, and even France. Highlights included the parade featuring the National Labaro of the ANA, escorted by the association's highest officials and accompanied by the Alpini Brass Band of the Taurinense Brigade and the A.N.A. Brass Band of the Susa Valley. 17 guest banners and about 40 pennants took part, while the Municipality of Trino conferred Honorary Citizenship upon the two featured brass bands.
Alongside the ceremonial events, the festival offered an exhibition curated by the Section's Study Center, a documentary screening, floral tributes at the monuments to the fallen, visits to the graves of Eugenio Palazzi and Leandro Gellona, and a solemn holy mass. An event that confirmed how alive and deeply felt the Alpine tradition remains in Trino and throughout the Vercelli area.
The 95th anniversary edition transformed Trino into a meeting point for thousands of 'black feathers' and the entire Vercelli community. The presence of the National Labaro of the ANA, section banners, and group pennants gave the parade a special solemnity, accompanied by the notes of the Alpini Taurinense Brass Band and the A.N.A. Susa Valley Brass Band.
Alongside the ceremonies, the city paid tribute to Maestro Eugenio Palazzi, composer of 'Il 33', with a visit to his grave and birthplace. The Municipality of Trino sealed the celebration by conferring Honorary Citizenship upon the two brass bands.
Trino is located in the Province of Vercelli, Piedmont, and is easily accessible by car via the A26 motorway (the reference exit for the Vercelli area) or the state road connecting Vercelli to Casale Monferrato. By train, Vercelli station is the most convenient, with onward connections by bus.
The events of the Alpine gathering, including parades, brass band concerts, and ceremonies, took place in the public spaces of Trino's town center with free admission.
The event took place from Friday, March 20, to Sunday, March 22, 2026.
