The off-road adventure between Umbria, Lazio, and Tuscany
The 1000 Sassi (or Mille Sassi) is a non-competitive adventouring motorcycle rally that has chosen Orvieto, in the province of Terni, as its operational base. Organized by the Moto Club MotoLampeggio and authorized by the Italian Motorcycle Federation (FMI), the event attracts hundreds of motorcyclists from all over Italy and abroad.
The heart of the event consists of loop stages that, starting and returning to Orvieto, traverse scenic dirt roads between Umbria, Lazio, and Tuscany: the slopes of Monte Amiata, the Monte Rufeno reserve, the shores of Lake Bolsena, medieval villages, and little-traveled ridges. Each edition features partly new routes, designed to combine off-road adventure, discovery of the territory, and slow tourism.
The event is divided into several formulas, from the One Day for a single day to the Explorer and Vip for multiple stages, covering a total distance that can exceed a thousand kilometers. The base is in Piazza del Popolo, with the final arrival in Piazza Duomo, under Orvieto's famous cathedral. This rally, sponsored by the Municipality of Orvieto, has become a regular fixture for enduro and maxi-enduro motorcycle enthusiasts.
The 2026 edition of the 1000 Sassi takes place from May 28 to June 2: it is the third Orvietan edition (sixth overall for the event), with 330 registered motorcyclists from Italy and abroad.
Five stages are planned on scenic dirt roads between Umbria, Lazio, and Tuscany, three of which are completely new. The base is in Piazza del Popolo from May 28 to June 1, while on June 2 the final arrival is in Piazza Duomo. The event is organized by MotoLampeggio, authorized by the FMI, and sponsored by the Municipality of Orvieto.
